Pondok Nasi Bakar - Geelong

We had the Nasi Bakar and Grilled Chicken Rujak, Pecel Lele, Es Campur, Banana Fritters and Mega Mendung. The nasi bakar was tasty, although it was a bit hard to open. The staff offered to help me and gave me tips on how to open it, which I appreciated. The chicken was well cooked and the sauce was nice and not too spicy. The pecel lele was also good, especially the sambal as it was very spicy. The es campur was tasty, even though I couldn't finish it because of how big the serving sizes were. The banana fritters were good and the cheese, chocolate and banana went well together.

We ordered Nasi Bakar with beef rendang and beef ribs at this restaurant. The rice was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful aroma. The beef and sambal were also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in Geelong.

We had no complaints about any of the dishes we tried, from the lamb satay to the tasty nut-based soup. The beef rendang was especially flavourful, and the beef ribs were smoky and incredibly tender. The meat paired perfectly with the aromatic rice, infused with banana leaf flavors, and the sweet and spicy sambal chili. For you guys Indonesians who miss authentic Indonesian grilled (bakar) dishes, you should really try this place. The price was reasonable and worth it, especially for the grilled fish, only $14ish for a whole grilled fish. We also had their nasi bakar with grilled chicken and ribs and also banana fritters as dessert. Can’t wait for them to open a branch in Melbourne!
