This beautiful small café opens very early every day and offers an impressive selection of freshly baked breads, pastries, cakes, desserts from A-Z and hot drinks. There is a small seating area inside and additional sidewalk seats. The host was very friendly and efficient....The place is quite the hangout for early morning customers and fills up really fast! I only tried the tea and a croissant (4.70CHF). One thing I would recommend to offer some sort of milk substitute products on the menu. Otherwise, their product selection is really impressive for such a small bakery. Very recommended.
Very good place. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and adapts to some special requests. The sweets that sell there (quindim) and the tostadas for the morning breakfast are great!
We visited a friend in Geneva who recommended this café. We went there 2x, once a day when we left Geneva. We had loads of Portuguese egg tarts and some other Custard/Brot products, but think my Fave was the Pastis de nata... crispy pastries and lush Custard. Probably the best we had outside Belem, Portugal. They were also very affordable. It is a very small café, so it is busy, but defo is worth a visit for a sweet fixation:
I've tried quite a few of the bakeries here, and So Mel is far and away my favourite. It might not look like much on the inside, but the baked goods are delicious. I've had the croissants, the pain au chocolats, the natas, the boules...de Berlin all unfailingly good. Considering the quality, way better than the more touristy bakeries. I come here every day and have never had to wait, which is a plus.
It seems that the Portuguese have the best bakeries. EVERYTHING in this place is fresh, beautiful to the eye, and delicious to eat. Of course, the small classic Portuguese sweet tartlettes de nata are a must, but the croissant are also superb and sometimes they have... cooked over curls of sugary dough only so. The place is beautiful, and there is coffee and a very nice coffee shop atmosphere. Service excellent by wonderful, multilingual staff. Go, you won't be disappointed.
