One thing I didn't like is the pos waiter w/ the ugly cheap tattoo on his forearm. I wasn't even don't ordering and he leaves. I asked him to come back and he gives us attitude. He was extremely rude. I was literally about to beat his . Anyways. The total came out to around 245 usd
This is a tourist hangout let's just get it out there. It's cheesy in a touristy way thatch roofs, big tanks of live seafood, open air to the ocean. We walked in at 7pm with 10 people and we got a table right away there are tons of huge round tables! But it's done in a great way it's lively, there are fans blowing, it feels like you are in the tropics. It's clean, and such fresh seafood would cost you a fortune in Singapore or HK or any major city in Asia. But at Bali Hai, we ordered live local snapper, live huge prawns, scallops, squid we ate like kings and it cost $25 USD a person. Service is efficient, but not necessarily the friendliest (but few place in Asia excel in customer service, I'm used to it by now). It's right by the ocean, and so it's really nice to walk back to your apt/hotel after dinner.
I've seen the concept at a few restaurants in southern China. The fresh seafood is laid out for perusal, and you can pick the ones you want along with cooking style. We came in a group of 7 for dinner and got 7 dishes. Fried rice, stir fried eggplant, sautéed okra were pretty normal. Fried calamari was a little lacking in flavor, as was the fried snapper. We also got the giant prawns and a lobster. I had not had good lobster previously but the lobster was cooked very well and was very tender. Overall good ambience and decoration but food was about average for the price. I think our bill came out to ~2400rm but we also had many drinks.
Sunday night visit about 7.30pm with table for 10. Seated quickly with friendly staff. Great for bringing friends and family because of display tanks and presentation. We had fried rice 35) fried noodles 35) fried fresh water prawns 120) bean curd and shrimps in clay pot 45) whole fried fish 150) mixed vegetables 100), chili crab 240) , salted egg coated fried crab 240), fried squid 88), water .80), wet naps .40) and lots of left overs. They will sell you more than you need so slow down. Tipping is automatic 5 percent. Reasonable. Good food but priced above, for the a b market. I wouldn't order chili crab again as I've had better.
