The staff is friendly, but there’s too much sticky familiarity in the air. And though the menu is interesting, you end up feeling a bit lured. Overall, this restaurant should prove to be more honest and cut their prices, also given the fact that it is located along a noisy road with trucks and cars in a remote area of Portugal. If the cook and the cuisine was real gourmet, it would be different. But is isn’t.
The food is always great. The self service at lunch is a great idea. The prices aren't ridiculous and the place is family friendly. Definitely would recommend.
We visited this for an evening dinner, and boy, I'm glad we did. The food was to die for, which covered all kinds of seafood available. We had prawns and snails for starters; well enough to feed 20, rather than the 10 at our table. Following this came, mussels, mussels in a wine-based sauce, all accompanied with the most delicious warm bread, which you just couldn't stop eating. Then desserts arrived. Well a fantastic selection of five different local dishes which were just to die for! Would go back here in a flash, and would recommend anybody close to them to schedule in a visit.
We ate here three times over the course of a six-day stay in Barcelos and we would have gone back if we had more time. This is the best kind of family-owned restaurant. The service is attentive and friendly. The food is a nice cross of traditional Portuguese dishes and more Mediterranean-influenced fare with some standards that would appeal to anyone. We tried roast veal, fish dishes, hamburgers and the very special Franceshina (not to be missed). The vegetable starters were all great (roast mushrooms were a particular treat). The desserts, made in house, were also top notch. Everything from the wine recommendations to their ability to meet special dietary needs showed that the owners of this restaurant know what they're doing and care about their customers.
