They were rude and unfriendly, and it was unacceptable how they shouted and swore at customers when mistakes were pointed out. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this bar to anyone. There are many nicer, more affordable, and friendlier options nearby. I suggest avoiding this place altogether.
Ok, so although I'm American, my Ancesters are from Scotland and I'm taking ownership. Coming from American to trace down my ancestry, I'm looking for as much Scottish life as I can soak up. Someone locally suggested we come to the Ben Nevis. One of the best decisions we made. Great service, good drinks and fantastic local musicians. I kind of felt adopted by everyone for the hour we stayed. I would definitely recommend!
Whisky extravaganza! Several good beers on tap, an impressive selection of whisky and great live music! A great way to top of an early-ish night, as they close at midnight.
How cool is this place! Tiny and real gem in the west end. It feels incredibly authentic and so do the customers. This is definitely the kind of little pub that you would expect to visit and find in Scotland. It's a little intimidating walking in for the first time but the atmosphere is incredibly welcoming so the feeling doesn't last long. Every whiskey drinker will find their perfect drink and even non whiskey drinkers will find something to enjoy. The tables are small, the stools even smaller and you might struggle to find a place. Get cosy with the other patrons and enjoy people watching! The decor is rustic and there are old pillars or wood things around the walls. The writing is interesting something about west and east and north and south (not entirely sure what that's all about) but it's definitely interesting and fits the wooden interior.
Aw man, I love this place! We were having an accidental Friday and ended up here, for cider and whisky. Ciders poured, what whisky would we like? I hesitated, I usually ask for Talisker, I said thoughtfully, to which the barman replied don 't order what you 'd have at home. Hang on. Tell me what you like. Barman proceeds to ask if we like smoky, peaty, this island or this? Hang on, he says, I 'll get the stool, and plucks something from an upper shelf. My wallet trembled, unnecessarily, as it turned out. Not sure what the folks behind us waiting to be served thought of the barman and his careful selection of whisky, but we were happy. Here, he says, and hands us a small milk bottle of water. Taste it neat first, then put a strawful of this in. There 's quite often live sessions happening in the corner too...
