However, once the food arrived, it was delicious and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding Sundae.
We were staying at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow, for a couple of days. It was pouring rain the day we arrived and decided to eat in the Annlann Restaurant in the hotel that evening. There was 4 of us and the food was very good with a big choice. We had steak which was priced for 2 people and it was very good indeed. I usually like a desert but had no space for one after such a satisfying meal. However 2 of us did have desert don't know where they put it. With drinks the cost was just under £80 which I thought was terrific value. The staff were excellent.
We went to meet a business colleague who was staying here. We started with a drink and then decided to eat in the bar. There were 5 staff working, who spent most of their time talking to each other. Three of them were chewing gum the whole time we were there, which was very off putting especially as one of the girls was furiously chewing with her mouth open. Yuk! The 2 girls had long hair which was not tied back. As they were also serving food that is definitely a no no. Eventually we managed to get someone's attention long enough to order food. Our mains were duly served (she was still chewing gum). We were not asked if we wanted more drinks, we had to call someone over, and the used glasses were not taken away. My colleague ended up with three empty glasses. The staff were still stood around talking and chewing without looking to see if anyone wanted anything. We managed to get someone's attention to order desserts and she brought over a menu (still chewing gum). At that point she seemed to notice that we had empty plates from our mains and she took them away (but still didn't take empty glasses or ask if we wanted any more drinks). I asked for creme brulee (literal translation burnt cream). It came in a pot with no brulee on the top so it was just creme and very bland at that. The waitress (still chewing) gave me some rubbish about the chef saying that if he had done the brulee the rest of it would have melted!!!!???? We decided to get the bill. Trying to attract the attention of one of the 5 staff stood about talking was a major feat in itself but we eventually managed it and she brought the bill over (still chewing). They had charged us £5 for 2 bowls of olives that we had not ordered so that had to be adjusted. The dirty plates and glasses were still on the table. As someone who works closely with the licensed trade, they missed numerous sales opportunities to sell more drinks, coffees etc, they were totally disinterested. And for goodness sake, STOP THEM CHEWING GUM!
Ate at this hotel on Wednesday 14th May 2014................wife treated herself to 6oz steak from the menu at an additional cost of £7.50. We have never in our lives ever been presented with a dish that contained not only such a small steak but only ONE MUSHROOM and ONE SMALL HALF TOMATO and a SMALL basket of chips...............speak about being mean !.......complained to the senior on duty who was more interested in getting paid for the extras we had ordered including £1.00 for blob of ice-cream to enhance the dry profiteroles served for the sweet than listening to her customers complaint............although we had a lovely self service breakfast the next morning where I could have piled tonnes onto my plate the attitude the night before was pathetic and downright rude and therefore spoilt our stay ! room 321 if the management are even interested !
An offer from KGB High Tea... a fantastic meal in lovely surroundings... second visit and we will be back!
