I live upstairs and I sometimes treat myself to something from here. It's always delicious! The staff are really nice as well.
Omleltte was Good, The Bad was the greasy frozen chips and the Ugly was definitely me. Such a shame this friendly little cafe was let down by some of the worst chips it has been my unfortunate experience to be served in a lifetime of visiting small cafes in Glasgow.. Everything else was great. The service was quick, the staff were pleasant, and the prices were decent. Small touches like a couple of newspapers for customers to browse didn't go unnoticed and was appreciated. The bottom line for the existence of cafes is people go there to eat, and when the food is bad it has to be noted so the owners can do somethiung about it. It takes a lot of effort or carelessness to ruin chips, but sadly Georgie Porgie managed it. There is of course no recipe as such so changing the raw material might be the answer and cooking at the correct temperature for the correct length of time avoids being served the horrible plate of semi-crispy greasy things I was presented with. Where skill was required, in the cooking of my omelette, I was pleasantly surprised with a well cooked tasty treat, so there is obviously someone who knows how to cook which makes the nasty chips a puzzle to understand. C'mon Georgie. must do better !
I have frequented this cafe more out of necessity than choice over a number of years now. The staff are friendly and efficient, which is where they excel. However, the food is a bit hit and miss. Some days the bread is fresh, others it's going a little hard. When you get a good cup of lentil soup, it's delicious and one of the best things on the menu; when you get a bad one, it's unfortunately like carrot water (thin, watery and tasteless which is what I got today). It's a bit like lentil roulette. The other issue is the prices. Every time I go in (which I'll admit is now few and far between), the prices always seem to have jumped up. And some weeks, what you are charged seems to depend on the person putting it through the till. It used to be £2.50 for soup and a one filling sandwich. Today I got charged £2.90. I will say their baked potatoes with salad were lovely. The only reason I stopped buying these was the ever increasing prices which jumped up, in my opinion well above inflation. In conclusion, staff are great, food is hit and miss, but can be good on a good day.
This is a small but very popular cafe, the staff are all friendly and the food is fresh. the home-made soups are on the whole wonderful. i have eat here for over 4 years and i cannot find too much to fault. the prices are reasonable, the service is second to none. if you have any particular roll you would like the girls will be happy to make it up for you. my personal favourite soup that they make is chicken and rice, its great on a cold day!
