Papa Gills - Glasgow City

Inexpensive tasty curries in Partick. Recommend fish pakora and Kerala curry. Spicy chicken pizza also good.

A friend of mine and I had a lovely meal in Papa Gills in Partick recently. We have been frequenting this place for the last 20 years or so and have always found the food excellent. On this occasion the place was fairly quiet. The food was the usual high standard, and this time the music was very much to my taste sixties classics. Overall, a most enjoyable evening.

Having moved to the area, we decided to support the small businesses locally, rather than go to the trendier Byres Road. On entering the restaurant we were met with the heavy vile stench of cigarette smoke, as one of the waiters/owners had just been smoking at the entrance to the restaurant! NOT...a good or welcoming start. We were seated and were the only people in during the length of our visit.. Having received an obviously microwaved starter that was as hot as lava on the outside, but cold in the middle, my other half complained, only to be met by a rather rude waiter, who said they're was nothing wrong with the food. Between this and the smell of cigarette smoke still heavy in the air, we cancelled the rest of our order, sent the cold food and flat beer back, and left the premises. I will not be returning and would definitely not recommend to others.

We visited this restaurant and were left very disappointed. We ordered the deal £22.95. The starter pakora was cold, both curries were cold as was the rice and garlic nan (no evidence of garlic in it at a £1 extra) there was a long hair in my husbands curry and when we reported this to the waiter, he says it couldn't be possible as the chef had short hair! Would not recommend. Staff pleasant enough but clearly had no customer service skills

Popped into here as I had a serious urge for a curry. It opens at 3pm, and I entered at 3.15pm to be told that the Chef was..... on his way! Err.....why are you open then if there 's no one there to cook the food? I waited for another 15 minutes and still no Chef....so that was it, time to leave. So I can 't actually review the food as I didn 't get any. You decide if this is the sort of place you want to try. I certainly won 't be going back. The Waiter asked me not to post a review....so make of that what you will....He also said it wasn 't his fault the Chef hadn 't turned up! :-D
