The pies are a little on the pricey size but hey this is Glastonbury so it's right on target with town prices. I love the pepperoni they use here its smaller in circumference and gets nice and crispy edges from the oven. We sometimes order one of the Harry's Special Pie which is loaded with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, mushroom and onions.....we skip the olives. Never understood the black olive on pizza thing......but you like it you can have them. Or we get a Pepperoni Basil pie. Nice medium thin chewy crust with a slight char to the edges. They don't deliver so you'll have to eat in or pick up a pie to go.
First of all this isn't the original Harry's. Besides the location, about the only thing in common with the old Harry's is the high price of pizza. Beware that the pizza is different. You no longer have a thin crewy crust. Instead the crust is much thicker and pretty doughy. They also leave a good inch around the perimeter with no toppings. Personally I felt the toppings were kind of skimpy. What really turned me off was that I witnessed the clerk who handles cash jump over and slice the pies without using gloves. Yuck. Considering that I am disgusted with their gun carry policy you won't find me in Harry's again
I had heard a lot about Harry's and since we were in the mood for pizza tonight, we thought we would give it a try. We ordered a large West Hartford. I was a bit surprised when the person taking my order let me know it would be about $30 for my order. Wow, I thought that is one expensive pizza. Then I picked it up. And I understood. I mean, look at the size of that thing! It was very tasty (lots garlic and we will definitely be going back for more.
3.5 for food. 2 for catering. Ordered a LARGE catering order from Harry 's for my company. We called late afternoon the evening before as we were scrambling to put something together to use up funds for the year. They said it wasn 't an issue and we agreed on a pick up time. The time that we decided on was a bit late for our typical business lunches, so we asked that everything be ready right on time of pickup. Again, no problem! The next day, aka morning of, they called to confirm the pick up time again and the order. Perfect, everything we discussed the night before with the other person we spoke to. By the time pick up comes, we show up 10 minutes beforehand to find parking, and walk in about 5 min before pickup. They said they were still making a few pizzas and it would be done shortly. Ok, not ideal but manageable for us. People were waiting for their lunch, but it 's cool. 10 minutes go by before the first few salads come out. We pack them and wait again. 15 min in, and we can pack some pizzas into the car. By the 20 minute mark, we only had half our order ready and I could still see them scrambling to make the final 3 salads and some pizzas as I stood there. It wasn 't until 30 minutes past pick up time that we finally had everything ready for us. As much as I would like to say, it was a big order. They did the best they could , I can 't. They knew hours ahead of time and didn 't time manage well enough. Also, how hard it is to pack some salads up in advance? Icing on the cake: no one told us about their Friday Delivery service for catering orders until we arrive for pick up. Two calls with them and no mention until we are there. Once the revolt in the office calmed down because of the late food (these people had an hour lunch and half of it was sitting around waiting because of the delay! , everyone did comment that the food was good and they enjoyed it. The sauce was good, the toppings were hefty, and given the large number of pizzas we got, the overall consistency among them all was spot on. TLDR: good pizza, bad catering. Just buy 1 pie for pick up or eat in, and give yourself buffer/waiting time when planning your visit for less stress.
I have loved Harry 's for two decades. As of today I must pull my support for Harry 's. I suffer from PTSD due to being held at gun point. The new owners of Harry 's proudly display their love of firearms and have a sign that says guns welcome here . I really wish Harry 's could have made it about the food then just welcoming patrons proud to have firearms. I get it that second amendment rights are part of this country, but I also have a right to choose what businesses I will and will not support.
