Most odd for a Saturday morning, but perhaps not so, considering the food we received! We ordered “Smashed avocado with roasted truss tomatoes, Danish feta & 2 poached eggs on multigrain toast - $17.50”. What an extreme case of misrepresentation! What we received was 2 tiny slices of multigrain (Vienna shaped) toast (from the size I suspect they were the ends of the loaf, and they’d have been lucky to be 5mm thick; not toast thickness at all). The avocado was most certainly not “smashed” – it was “mashed”, and spread so sparingly it resembled a scraping of butter on the toast. The eggs were tiny, and the most “average” poached eggs I’ve ever eaten. The truss tomatoes must still be growing on the bush, as we received 2 or 3 unripened tiny cherry tomatoes, cut in half so as to look like there was a lot more on the plate. The miniscule amount of crumbled feta resembled nothing more than a plate garnish. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience. In hindsight, I should have sent the food back, but I didn’t want to cause a fuss (the other couple of diners would have heard every word!). The hot chocolate was very good (possibly one of the best cups I’ve ever had, so they’ve got that bit right – I believe their coffee is good too!). The staff were polite, but I wouldn’t say there was any “service”. The menu was handed to us as if it was an effort to even walk to our table. We weren’t offered table water at all, nor were we asked if we’d like anything additional after we finished our meal. I won’t ever go back, and I’ll most definitely be telling my friends not to bother going. Word-of-mouth is the best form of marketing for any business, and sadly for Raven Hill Café, they’re doing it wrong!
I have a feeling the owner of the place has regretted offering a $19.00 deal for two people on Scoopon. It is cheap, but the idea of the deal on Scoopon is for people to come back and pay the full price. Would I do it. NO! I would not even come back for free! It is that bad. The menu is very limited and typed on scrunched piece of paper folded in half. Our breakfast took a while to arrive, but when it came it looked awful: no presentation and it had two (literally two) cherry tomatoes on avocado toast. Apparently, there is no smoked salmon even though the menu lists smoked salmon. We were told by the owner that it has not been delivered yet and that was 11.00am! Even if it has not been delivered (and I do not think it is the truth), why don't you send someone to purchase it from supermarket? I could go on on, describing the wide open toilet door right in front of the tables where people are eating, exasperated faces of owners, etc. but I will stop here. Enough said.
From the moment we called to book we felt welcome the service is excellent the menu is great. Our food was perfect and they accommodated my grandmothers needs who stayed in the car with no problems really happy A++++
