Contribuisci feedbackThe fried fish at this restaurant is the best I have ever tasted, but the fries were just okay. Unfortunately, they were out of lobster, the service was unfriendly, and their hours were inconsistent.
For years i have ordered fish-chips at all sea side restaurants all over the place only to be dissapointed. Beer batter, breaded, dripping with oil, well done, not done enough, I've had them all. These were fresh haddock, lightly breaded and deep fried till golden brown. The batter did not fall of the fish, and the fish was solid, not mushy. And you could see it was real fish! I went back for a second order.
The roadside chip-truck known as Fisherman’s Corner first popped up near our cottage probably six or seven years ago and has been a family favourite ever since. The work that goes into running this busy spot is evident when, on any given summer day, you will find at least one of the employees seated outside on the small front platform hand-peeling potatoes from a 50-pound bag and stacking up the cleaned ones in a big stainless steel bowl, just a few short steps away from becoming perfectly-cooked French fries. Inside, two or three others must be sweating off pounds in the heat of the tiny space filled with hot oil fryers. Every once in a while, one steps outside to open the large chest freezer on the deck to fetch something from inside. It seems that they never have a moment’s rest, from morning to nightfall, and all that hard work and dedication shows in their simple food offerings. There are a few picnic tables lined up in front of the truck and an almost equal number of spaces right along the roadside where you can pull in to park while visiting. The menu choices are few but all are good, and come in various sizes and combinations. The fries are obviously hand-made but I suspect that the onion rings start from frozen. The lightly-battered haddock is always a good bet, fresh from the ocean, and not the least bit greasy. The fried clams are plump and chewy, and the scallops are a good size and always moist. We like the Fisherman’s Platter, which includes one piece of fish, a handful of clams, five or six scallops, a generous serving of fries, and a small cup of coleslaw, all for around $15. The lobster roll is packed with juicy meat and often includes the orange-red roe blended right in with the dressing, which I personally like but recognize that some others may not. There is also a lobster burger on offer but I have not yet strayed from the traditional roll. For landlubbers, burgers, hot dogs and chicken fingers are also available. Cold canned soft drinks and bottled water, as well as the breeze off the nearby ocean, offer refreshment. This is a seasonal business that is open only when the crowds of tourists driving the Lighthouse Route make it profitable. It is also a “cash only” establishment; the nearest ATM is in the Sou’wester, which is the gift shop and restaurant complex nearest to the lighthouse in Peggy’s Cove, less than a ten-minute drive away. I made my first trip of the season to the Corner this past weekend and will look forward to further visits later this summer.

Me and my Dad ride our motorcycles out at least once every summer and we ALWAYS stop for lunch. All the excellent reviews are true. Great local ladies, locally supplied, nothing fancy, just a great spot. Whether you want fried clams or fish, they will not disappoint. I heard that this summer might have been their last. If so, I will miss them and the food.
