Every time I'm still close to this area, I'll be out of my way to stop by! Love their sandwiches, no one can beat a $2-4 fresh Cuban sandwich! I fully agree that their potato balls and fruit cakes must buy EVERYTIME! For every special occasion, their cakes are the best, by far! You can even order a full leaf of fruit tart!!! The lines can look long, but their service is fast and efficient. This bakery works like clockwork and therefore people come back again and again despite the crowd.
Porto’s is officially a bakery, but half of its Glendale location is also dedicated to regular dishes. I do not live in the area of LA, so when I am in the city, I come with several boxes of Porto’s. Your sandwiches are ok... You have some Cuban sandwiches and some regular sandwiches. The best part is that they come with a few strips of their Plantain chips. yum! but I come here especially for 1) the fruit owls 2) the potato balls. If Porto only serves fruit planets, they could thrive as a business. Her fruit varieties are SO GOOD. The fruit is always amazingly fresh, sweet and plentiful, no matter what season it is. It comes with strawberries, blueberries, peaches and apples... maybe more. But I think the only fruit that is not fresh is the candied peaches. They make them in different sizes – at the lunch counter you can buy the individual sizes – about 3 4 diameters, but on the bakery side you can buy several sizes of much larger. I recommend the larger cakes about the individual sizes because they are somewhat different - the larger cakes come with a more graham crisp crust, and there is a thin layer of sponge cake under the custard. On the individual cakes they have more of a pastry crust, and only one custard layer, no sponge cake. The potato balls are also great. It is essentially a ball of deep fried potatoes filled with ground beef, but I love it. I would also recommend Pastelito, a fluffy pastry with cream cheese and guava jam-plant chips as a side order - comes with mojo sauce, a creamy olive oil each of the small bakery goods at lunch table... never had anything I didn't like! Kingdom
I love this place. I wish it were closer. I wanted them to party because I love many of their foods. Too bad the party had to be canceled. My absolute #1 favorite is her cheese rolls. These tasty and sweet pastries filled with sweet cheese. It's so good. It's so addictive, you can't have one. You also have it with Guava and that's also good. Your sandwiches are great. I love the Cuban sandwich. You have meat pieces, potato balls, chorizo Pies, Ham Croquettes... I can go on. So far everything I've tried is really good. The place is always packed. I suggest going early on the weekend. And don't forget to get some of their freshly baked breads. Delicious!
Actually, I've never been. But my friend brought over a brown baker box, full of different cross-aints and two chilled cream glasses. I have to say that was so delicious, it ruined my dinner! I love mainly her cheese crossaint “sticks”.. it has a sweet cream cheese center on an always slightly sweetened glazed and flocken Kreuzaint
The best thing to happen to glendale, after the galleria. i thank the heavens for the delicious potato balls, and sweet pastries. but beware… the lines are crucial.
