Grey's and the New Inn are hidden gems that deserve more recognition. They are not overly fancy but could work on improving their reputation. The staff member was decent, but could be more enthusiastic. The cream tea was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. It's a great value and a peaceful retreat in the city. Unfortunately, the toilets were dirty and lacked basic amenities like soap. It seems they may be having trouble hiring staff, but I would still come back for another visit.
We were in search of a unique coffee shop and Greys seemed to fit the bill. Upon entering, we had to be cautious not to hit a gentleman sitting inside as the space was extremely tight. The place was incredibly cramped, with some tables being unusable due to lack of space. We eventually managed to find a seat, surrounded by the remnants of the previous customers. Despite sitting for a while, no staff member acknowledged us or came to take our order or clear the table. Just as we were considering ordering at the counter ourselves, the lone staff member left the premises. After waiting for some time, we ultimately decided to give up and leave.
Two mugs of Cappachino's was approx £5 or less A few small tables in set in an ancient part of the New Inn hotel on the main street. Can walk through into the historic pub here and take a photo of the ancient horse-carriage. Of course the New Inn is anything but New. It's historic and haunted. Hot snacks here including vegetarian available (Spinach and Feta) but they do close early. These a relight bites and not big meals. At the time of writing, they do a Baguette meal with a hot drink for £7.50 each person Coffee and Cake for two is about £5 English (British) Tea is also available -mug , cup or pot of tea. Small with traditional oak beams and counter. If you are in a larger group you can go inside the pub/ dining area instead would be my suggestion. Soup of the day is served here with bread for about £4.30 lots OF SWEET CAKES!
Simple unpretentious food in the coffee shop part of the historic New Inn. A bit cramped but more than compensated for by the friendly waitress and the quality and quantity of the food. Good value for money
