Tired worn out Hotel , read reviews before booking … both good and bad points . Carpets look like they have been installed 100 years ago . Shower did not work properly and when we complained we were fobbed off
Hotel was nothing fancy but clean good value for money. There was a microwave fridge in the room which was a nice surprise. Lady on reception was very polite helpful. Bed was nice comfy so slept well. The only downfall was the awful view from the room. It was the other side of the building that was being renovated only a metre from our window. And considering we paid to ungrade the room we thought we would’ve had better.
We decided to revisit this restaurant as a trip down memory lane, as we had originally met at a dinner and dance in the hotel 50 years ago. We only stayed for one night and were unsure of what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The welcome was warm and friendly, the room was clean, tidy, and spacious. Although the kitchen was closed, our room was equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses, a microwave, and a fridge for us to enjoy meals in. However, with a plethora of restaurants in the area, we opted to dine out. The bed was not the most comfortable, but it was adequate for a one-night stay.
Booked for an impromptu weekend break. We were a little sceptical given the price of £75 but needn’t have been. Parked within a two minute walk of the hotel which is right in the town centre. The young chap on reception was so friendly and very polite, he is a credit to this hotel. Lovely old building with some interesting features like old vehicles dotted about . Our room was off the courtyard at the back of the main building and was huge. It had everything we needed and appeared to have been thoughtfully laid out. Storage to hang clothes, desk, full size, under counter fridge, TV etc. there was also a microwave, plates, bowls and knives and forks probably for people staying a number of nights and needing to be able to prepare a ready meal. The en suite was very clean, nice fluffy towels etc. plentiful hot water. There’s not much more to say really… Was it high end luxury …. No Did it have bells and whistles …. No Champagne, canapés and room service …. No But ……. Who care because …. Well located …. Absolutely Warm, friendly and polite welcome …. Absolutely Clean, warm, spacious room ….absolutely Everything we needed …. Absolutely Highly competitively priced …. WITHOUT A DOUBT A well known, budget, large chain hotel would have been £45 more. No disrespect to said large chain hotels but The New County Hotel felt as though it had a heart Thank you for our lovely stay, we’ll be back xx
