RSL Club Southport - Gold Coast

This is a well located Club, almost opposite Australia Fair Shopping Centre on Scarborough St, with the Southport South Tram Stop only 200 metres away. It's a big, rather rowdy space, nothing intimate about the place at all. However it is clean and tidy and seems to be well run.I called in for an early dinner and was surprised by the breadth and value of the menu, with a couple of meals costing as little as $10. I had beer-battered flathead with chips and salad for $16. Fish was fresh, nicely cooked and not overly oily, in fact it was very good. The staff were friendly, although at times a bit inattentive, nevertheless a generally good experience.

Atmosphere is friendly cheap and easy parking underneath. The slow cooked lambshank was as good as anywhere. The cheaper meals are clean canteen style. Good staff and good tucker with no views in a dated easily accessible location

We went to the RSL to have dinner and see The Eagles Tribute Band. After waiting 1 1/2 hrs for meals, my husband brought them upstairs where we proceeded to sit at a table when the rudest staff member yelled at us "You can't sit there". We moved to a different area. I asked her for a couple of forks, she ignored me. Very poor service, will not be going back!

We stopped for dinner as the range of food looked good. Unfortunately the steak we were served was a poor cut and had a thick line of fat/grissle through the middle, smelled stewed and wasn't cooked medium meaning that there wasn't very much edible meat. When taken back to complain the service staff member was extremely obliging but returned to say that the chef refused to re make the dish. We believe the chef acted poorly and we were left with the choice of a refund or no food. The chicken nuggets served to the children were also poor quality and they refused to eat them.

We've been here a few times now and have joined as members. The service is good and the food is well priced and pretty good. It can get very busy but you generally receive your food fairly promptly. They have a full bar and also pokie machines for those inclined. A good family restaurant and you'll get a good solid meal here. Well recommended!Cheers Southport RSL !! Keep up the good work. : )
