We visited this bar and restaurant when staying one night at the Kicking Horse Resort and it was the only place open for dinner on the mountain when we were there as the resort bar kitchen was already closed. We walked here which was only a short walk from the resort. We sat outside which probably wasnt the best move as the mosquitoes were out in full force. Our server was very friendly and we enjoyed our dinner of poutine fries and pizza and burger. All very tasty. The portion sizes are generous so you may struggle with an entree and a main course. The place doesnt profess to being five star so we werent expecting five star service or food. But what we did get was a reasonably priced tasty meal with a drink, a friendly chatty server while sat in peaceful surroundings and then finished off with a short evening walk back to the resort. Better than having to drive miles elsewhere or cooking yourself.
This restaurant was very understaffed during our visit. We were warned that our meal may take a while. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was mediocre and lacking flavour upon arrival. While we appreciate it was a busy night and staff were very apologetic and polite, it was a long wait for food that didn't match the prices or expectation.
When you are up at Kicking Horse Lodge the dining options are limited if you dont' want fine dining. We did not feel shortchanged by our choice. We got to sit outside at a table on the deck with great mountain views and a relaxed environment where my child asked to stay longer!!!The fish tacos and the kids plate were tasty fresh and reasonably priced.
Formerly The Kicking Horse Saloon, now The Winston Pub. We came for a late supper, and the place was pretty full. They offer a good selection of regional craft beer. Not a huge menu, but a well-picked sampling. The portions were generous. The poutine was ordered as an appetizer to share, but it is enough for a meal for one person. The small pizza similarly is good enough for one person to make a meal--equivalent to four slices of a medium pizza. Everything tasted great.Staff were great--very enthusiastic. My only complaint would be about the bugs. You can't get away from them up here in the mountains during the summer. But the screen doors added on the pub as an afterthought were poorly installed and leave huge gaps.
