This cozy vegetarian restaurant is located at Maraveneri area, at a crossroads. It is well-known and easy to find, as the food is consistently amazing. I have brought many friends here and they have all enjoyed their meals. Some of them now make a point to stop by here while traveling from Coimbatore to Chennai or Bangalore. On special days, they also offer traditional sweets along with their meals, adding a homely touch to the dining experience. I have only tried their lunch menu, but it has always been delicious.
Rao Mess in Salem is a fantastic spot for those who enjoy simple, natural South Indian vegetarian dishes. While the restaurant may not excel in terms of atmosphere, seating, or location, the food is outstanding - delicious and satisfying. During our lunch visit, my friends and I were impressed by the delicious spread served on banana leaves. Starting with Sakkarai Pongal and moving on to Kootu, Poriyal, steamed rice, sambar, mor kozhambu, rasam, and curd, every dish was delightful and I couldn't resist going back for seconds. The mor kozhambu was especially noteworthy. The staff were friendly and patient, serving with a smile. The prices were reasonable and offered great value. Rao Mess is a must-visit in Salem.
