In search of truly authentic indian cuisine, we have tried most of the Indian restaurants in Christchurch in recent times. Spice 'n ' Life at Upper Riccarton is by far the best one we found. The food is of high quality and reasonably good quantity and the price is very reasonable. The taste, aroma and texture of the dishes are definitely superior. No excessive use of food colour and an authentic use of fresh Indian spices adds a new dimension. The customer service is exceptional we have been served with the same efficiency when we place orders for take aways as when we have dined there with a large party of 30+ people. We strongly recommend this restaurant to all connoisseurs of Indian cuisine.
I dined at Spice 'n ' Life on Friday 10 January with a group of 8 people. We dine there habitually, and always get a table. We go back time and again because the food and the service are phenomenal. <br <br The service is very discreet but polite. <br <br The thing that sets this restaurant apart is the authenticity of this Indian food experience. The Peshwari Naan (Naan with a range of dried fruits, making it slightly sweet) always vanishes, and we can 't get it anywhere else in Christchurch! We always order (and highly recommend) the: Butter Chicken (fantastically flavoured with fenugreek), the Lamb Saad and Black Lentils. The basmati rice is always perfect too. <br <br We order 6-7 dishes for our group, with a split bill this comes to $20 head, a very reasonable price for such fantastic food. <br <br A most delicious and enjoyable experience.
We are lunch diners only and were most regular up until later 2012 when the prices of all dishes were savagely raised around 30%. Yesterday was our first in over 6 mths. Lunches are always very quiet, we were often the only diners plus the occasional takeaway. Large price hikes are hardly conducive to bringing in more. We can simply dine much cheaper, get good food and naans included at a number of others. Naans are extra at spice n life. On a more positive note the food here is always fabulous. We have tried most of their menu. I love the chick pea dish and my wifes chicken madras yesterday was wonderful with a lovely roasted coconut flavour coming through. Mango lassi not good value as rather small. Decor/environment most agreeable, pleasantly done. Overall can be a good dining experience.I would rate 8 out of 10.
I ordered a Tandoori Chicken (Indian Chicken BBQ) for takeaway and the taste was to die for...really enjoyed with my kids. Haven't done a dinning yet but interior design looks incredible and staff are cool. Recommend to everyone !!!A
