We were let down by our pre-booked afternoon tea. The presentation was unexciting, the selection of cakes was lacking, and the scones were overcooked and stale. The staff were friendly and suggested an alternative, but we declined. The platter we were served had most of the items that we didn't care for. The scones were served on a separate plate.
This restaurant is great for those with smaller appetites, who are mindful of their budget, and prefer a more traditional atmosphere. Make sure to request a table by the front window for the best bang for your buck!
The food here is actually exceptional. Even something as plain as a fillet steak had incredible detail and depth the ham hock starter was just as lovely. I cannot recommend this chef enough. The food brought a welcome reminder of what the world was like pre pandemic when we used to find hidden gems who presented us something new and interesting and made food that is worth taking about. Great value too. A highlight of our holiday to the area and comparable to any 5* London restaurant we are used to. Thank you.
The food was spectacular. Had one of the best meals I've ever had my starter (the cured brill) was particularly amazing. The service wasn't quite up to the same standard, there seemed to only be 2 serving staff dealing with the Fallowfields and the more casual sister restaurant. However, if they nail the service, this place would be one of the best restaurants to eat in the UK. Hope they can make it happen!
