Shady Bend Cafe - Grand Island

I just had a meal at Shady Bend with a group of 14, and the service was excellent. They kept the breakfast buffet well-stocked. It's a charming, old-fashioned family cafe—something we definitely need more of!

I had the chicken fried chicken, and it was the best I've ever tasted. For dessert, I enjoyed the rice pudding, which was also fantastic. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in Grand Island. It reminds me of the cafés we had in the 50s. I can't recommend any other place to eat in Grand Island, NE. The chicken fried chicken was a special, so it’s not on the menu. I plan to keep eating here as often as I can, and if I ever have a bad meal, I’ll let you know—but I really don’t think that will happen!

Delicious home cooked food in a quaint old location is located at the intersection of Nebraska's Highway 30 and Shady Bend Road, Grand Island. Historically a gas station for travelers of yesteryear, it is important enough in history that when it came time for a new one the intersection of Shady Bend Road and Highway 30 the road made a curve around this landmark. Now turned into a local cafe, the food is delicious in generous portions for very reasonable prices. Open for breakfast and lunch from 5 AM until 3 PM. Evenings open are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. See photo for open times beginning January, 2019. If you want a delicious taste of homemade cooking Shady Bend Cafe is a must! By the way, their homemade pies have a deliciously huge reputation in this area.

This restaurant is located in a historically registered building with a beautiful aesthetic. The staff is friendly, the service is prompt, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced! I will definitely be returning!

Great food, quick friendly service, quirky atmosphere- all a definite win. Kids and adults alike were happy. Great that they have all-day breakfast!
