The food, service, and atmosphere have remained consistently the same since 1972, which is why I rate this place with 5 stars. Give it a try and don't let the location deter you—this is one of Grand Prairie's oldest restaurants, still operating for a reason.
As for the meal itself, while the taco shell, cheese, and lettuce were passable, the beef was terribly lacking in flavor—it was quite bland. I tried to elevate my taco with some of the habanero salsa, but that fell flat as well. Both my roommate and I agreed that the salsa tasted stale and unfresh, as if it had been prepared weeks ago and should have been thrown out. To make matters worse, the chips that came with the guacamole and salsa were also stale. I ended up throwing away half of my meal because it simply wasn’t enjoyable. I’m not sure if I just chose the wrong dish on an off day, but even if that were the case, I would have expected much better food. The only redeeming feature of the restaurant was its retro signage and classic menu boards. I might reconsider this review if I decide to give Don Juan’s another shot in the future, but as it stands, that doesn’t seem very likely.
My wife and I are fans of Mexican cuisine, but unfortunately, this restaurant didn't leave us eager to return. The chips were somewhat stale, and the all-meat burrito plate turned out to be mostly taco meat with just one piece of chicken fajita inside, accompanied by a bag of chips. I was a bit disappointed. My wife ordered the five enchilada plate, which was decent. On the bright side, it was affordable, and we certainly left feeling full.
A unique spot! It wasn’t overly crowded, and the food was served quickly and was quite tasty. However, they could use a spicier hot sauce. This place differs from other Tex-Mex restaurants that offer complimentary chips and salsa throughout the meal. I wouldn't describe it as romantic—I'm not quite sure how that name fits. Thanks for clarifying the "romantic" aspect in the name. Wishing them the best and hoping they stay around for another 50+ years!
I just visited Grand Prairie and stopped by for a quick bite to eat. The service was fast, but the staff wasn't very friendly. I got my order to go and wanted to share my thoughts as I headed back to Dallas. The menu looked really appealing, and I noticed a lot of people coming in and out with bags of delicious food. I would definitely recommend this location!
