Disappointing Service Overshadows Decent Sushi and Lovely Ambience I recently visited Ju Sushi with a large party to celebrate a birthday, and unfortunately, my experience was marred by incredibly long wait times and poor service. Despite the restaurant having its merits, I felt compelled to share my disappointing experience. Let 's start with the positives. The sushi at Ju Sushi was okay, but far from amazing. The flavors were decent, but nothing exceptional that would make me want to come back specifically for the sushi. The ambience and decor, on the other hand, were pleasant. The restaurant had a charming atmosphere with tasteful decorations that created a relaxing environment. However, the negatives greatly overshadowed these positives. We had called in advance to make a reservation for our large party of more than six people. Our reservation was for 6:30 PM, but we ended up waiting for over two hours to get our food. Despite our attempts to inquire about the delay, our waitress provided minimal information, merely stating that they were working on it. The lack of communication and updates on the situation left us frustrated and confused. To add to our disappointment, the restaurant was only half empty, making the excessive wait time even more puzzling. It took the bartender 's intervention after we flagged him down to finally get an explanation. Even when the food eventually arrived, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused. The entire dinner experience took an absurd three hours, making it clear that Ju Sushi severely lacks in terms of service and hospitality. I strongly advise against dining here, especially if you have a large party. The poor service overshadowed any positives the restaurant had to offer, leaving a bitter taste in our mouths and making our celebration far less enjoyable than it should have been.
The edamame was well cooked. The crab Rangoon was nicely seasoned and creamy, the drink was nice and fruity, the 3 rolls we got were nicely prepared. Everything was great! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Playboy Roll
Expensive, but worth it if you enjoy sushi. Best I've had around Grand Rapids. The rice they use is prepared properly and their fish quality never disappoints, even on their cheapest rolls.
Ju is one of our favorite spots to visit. The wine selection is delicious. Our go to rolls are the Playboy and the Volcano Roll. The Miso soup is always hearty and flavorful. Service is relatively quick, but the waits don't seem too long because the mood is always pleasant. Stop by only once. I guarantee that like Lays, just once will be impossible.
