Summer Thyme's Bakery Deli

This place serves excellent coffee and delicious pastries. The deli can be a bit slow, but that seems to be standard in Grass Valley. The staff is always friendly, and there are some wonderful pre-made food options in the cold case. There's plenty of parking available, shared with the nearby bowling alley, so you can usually find a spot fairly close to Summer Thymes. And the sticky buns are absolutely amazing!

My husband and I have dined at this restaurant several times, but our most recent visit was disappointing. We ordered chicken enchiladas, but they were served barely warm, with the chicken inside actually cold. We requested that the server heat them up in the microwave, which he did, but his demeanor and facial expressions were unfriendly and rude, making us feel like we were inconveniencing him. Furthermore, I became ill several hours after eating there, with symptoms suggesting that I had consumed something containing wheat, despite my dish being advertised as wheat-free. This is concerning, especially for individuals with food sensitivities who must avoid certain ingredients. I had relied on the assurance that my meal would be free of wheat and had specifically confirmed this when placing my order.

I really enjoy this place, but be prepared for a wait if you order from the restaurant side. Some days are better than others, but the food is good enough that I wouldn’t take away a star for it. They serve great coffee, have friendly staff, and their sticky buns are AMAZING—who wouldn’t want those? There’s plenty of parking, which makes it easy to come and go on most days. They also offer a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options, along with local fare on a mostly organic menu!

The ideal spot to gather with friends, particularly if you have young children. It’s always my daughter's top pick!
