Field And Cellar At Thornewood Inn

This place is such a gem loved our meal and the ambiance. Watched the sunset over the mountains while listening to some wonderful piano playing. Food is creative and is a perfect farm to table experience. Highly recommend!

Charming inn, outstanding service, and delicious food. A truly extraordinary venue.

Food was outstanding. Dined on 5/5 and enjoyed a Cinco De Mayo themed menu. We live in Great Barrington and now consider this to be the best restaurant in town. The greens that accompanied the meals were unique and best I have ever had. The starters and entrees were something that you would experience at Wheatleigh or Blantyre. The atmosphere is inviting and the seating comfortable. We welcome having a table cloth and frown on other area restaurants that serve on bare tables.

Our view of this restaurant was already tainted upon entering when we were met by very tired, dated decor in the Inn and a gentleman playing a keyboard. Felt like we were going to a really bad wedding. Our table was actually on what I believe was the dance floor! The food and service were adequate at best. The chef is very imaginative with food and plating but everything was just not quite there. Food was tasteless for the most part and portions extremely small for the prices charged. We had a beet salad for $18 that had a few pieces of frisée, half of a ping pong ball sized beet sliced super thin, and a duck egg that literally looked uncooked sitting on top. I couldn’t eat it, nor could my guest. Our meal totaled almost $200 for four people and we barely ate anything! We left and went elsewhere for dessert. Their website is very modern and upscale looking but the restaurant is anything but...

We were returning to the Thornewood Inn for yet another wonderful stay and booked a dinner reservation in their new restaurant, Field Cellar. The chef, Jim Massey, is creative and imaginative! We were especially interested in the rabbit, which was delicious, as was every course and choice that we ordered. We definitely recommend having the experience of staying at the lovely Thornewood Inn and partaking of their wonderful cuisine while being entertained by a piano player and looking onto the gardens in the back. We shall return!
