As an authentic hole in the wall, this place can get quite busy; exercise patience as the staff process your orders. The owner John (Yiannis) is a treasure and worth the visit alone. He?ll selflessly keep you company and share a drink and story with you. Give the pork gyro a shot, have some Greek coffee, and finish it with a made-from-scratch Bougatsa. ????
This place is a hidden gem. Delicious Gyros, which we ordered along with dolmades and olives for a really nice Sunday lunch. They took time to explain where each olive type originated and clearly cared about the food's roots. We'll be back!
Added: Again, I?m not complaining that it wasn?t salty enough. It was not salty AT ALL. And this is coming from a person who does not like salty food. There must have been something wrong with brushing the marinade and the marinade itself. I would?ve brought my food for you to check it yourself, but it?s too far and too late. Please check with your cooking staff if you didn?t cook it yourself.. I ordered lamb chop and mixed grill (sirloin chicken lamb). It had no taste whatsoever other than simple faint herb scent. I called the restaurant and owner said he doesn?t season the meat with salt nor the olive oil that he brushes with while cooking. I think it?s nonsense and he just forgot to do something right on this dish, but if that?s actually how you cook and people like it?. Ok sure. Included sauce was pretty good. Meat was cooked to good temperature. I just wished this meat was seasoned or brushed well. Very disappointed as I love middetearanean (Turkish, Greek) style lamb chops and this was my first ever disappointment in this area.
Found this charming slice of Greek heaven after visiting the nearby zoo and knew we were about to enjoy some seriously good food when we entered the front door! The aromas coming from the open kitchen were phenomenal! We ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees, wines and desserts....all were undeniably amazing! The friendliest staff I've encountered in years! Wish I lived closer BUT Thelo is worth me driving in from Manassas on a more frequent basis!!!! Thanks for a great addition to an already epic day!
We went in on a slow Sunday evening and had a wonderful experience with John, the owner. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so we made jovial conversation and he personally attended to us during our visit. We had just come back from Greece a few weeks prior and were really missing the food, and he didn’t let us down. The tzatziki and hummus were tasty and wholesome. We all got the gyros, made with pork belly and they were meaty, fatty and delicious. We ordered dessert to go and when John found out that we were celebrating a birthday, gave us a box of his walnut cookies to go as a gift. The apricot baklava was delicious, but don’t miss out on the almond cookies either. What really made the experience special was the people. John was a host, not just the owner. He shared stories from back home and we shared experiences from our recent trip, like old friends. That’s what it felt like, was that he was a friend. Please do yourself a favor and take your date or your family here for a special occasion, or just because it’s Wednesday. Either way, you’re not going to be disappointed.
