It's frustrating to find a nice clean restaurant that has friendly service and serves terrific food at decent prices!!Well look to the Elm Street Cafe in a lovely small town setting in Grimsby, Ontario. We have actually been here many times and the experience is consistently great. It's delicious food served in generous portions. Believe me you will not leave hungry. Since the restaurant is located in a mall there is plenty of free parking. And the restaurant is so family friendly from kids to seniors, they welcome all.
We had a GR8 breakfast there with another couple this past Sunday morning. It was our 1st time, but not for the other couple. My wife had 2 eggs with bacon, ham, sausage & home fries. I had the Eggs Halinas, which is essentially Eggs Benedict, but with salmon. In fact, they offer 4 different varieties of eggs benedict. The portions were HUGE, but we managed to finish them. The breakfast menu is vast & anyone can find something to their liking. The restaurant is located in a small mall & parking is not an issue.
I have not been to this location since it was the Village Inn..which I had gone to for 30 years!.So my husband and I decided to stop for a late brunch since we were in town. The sign on the door reads open 8am to 3pm.. It was 2:20 Pm so we figured plenty of time to grab a quick Breakfast before 3pm. There was only 2 ppl seated inside when we walked in.. 2 waitresses busy cleaning and get ready to close..it took several minutes before we were even acknowledged standing there.. Then the 2 servers discussed across the restaurant where they would seat us because they were closing.. Then the one said "you can sit here, we have cleaned the rest of the restaurant." Real welcoming NOT! We felt like we were imposing.. After taking our seat she asked if we wanted a drink..yes we wanted coffee..She comes back and says "I had to put in a fresh pot because we are closing" Wow really, still making us feel like we are imposing! So a few minutes later a young couple walks in, and I can feel that the waitress are not happy about it.. They seat the couple..Then the younger one comes out with some big dirty mop and starts mopping the floor!! I Iooked at my husband and said YUCK! Thankful the guy at the other table spoke up and asked if they could put the mop bucket away until he was gone because the smell of cleaner was overwhelming and not something you want to smell while eating! They put the bucket away right away, but the waitress had to try to defend the smell and then the **** manger came over saying something about it being Lavender fragrance!! Come on really just put the bucket away and apologise!.. I thanked the guy for saying something..We get our traditional breakfast and it was ok..but the atmosphere and service made it a awkward experience! At 2:55 Pm a couple of ladies came in and were promptly told we are closed!.. We probably won't go back... I think they are missing the "hospitality" part of the restaurant business! If you close a 3pm wait to shut down until 3pm..or close at 2:30pm if you have to be out the door at 3pm!
Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the past 6 to 9 months. Breakfast is definitely the best thing they do. Wasn't very impressed with lunch or dinner. Staff are friendly, but the actual service is poor. Really a hit & miss kind of place.
