Food was fine. The lady who works here (the owner) is very Quirky. Even for Hong Kong standards, she 's very flaky acting. It 's like she 's trying to add drama an Asian 'atmosphere ' to the place. She seems friendly to regulars, I guess. I 've experienced the same phenomenon at a Dim Sum place in St. Louis. (By the way, the word 'entree ' is pronounced like ON-TRAY (not entry).
I ordered from the parking lot and then called and told them I was right out frint. There was a miscommunication because when I went inside 15 mins later to get my food it was not ready. The lady at the front counter said the man I spoke to thought I said 5pm. It was 10 til so I said I was in no rush as we lived way across lexington. This was my first time trying the restaurant and I was looking forward to not cooking dinner. Plus my 4 year old loves rice. That being said the lady started to berate me. She told me that I didn’t understand and that I did not need to call and say I was outside and that usually they make the food really fast and that I did not understand. I listened quietly and when she finished speaking I said again that I told the person I spoke to that I right out front and that I had repeated it three times. And then I said it was no rush. The place was empty except for 1 person waiting on a pickup. I had already paid the $43 and so despite her continuing to tell me off I went back to my car. She said she would bring the food to the car. I should have checked the bag. When I got home and took it out. The lo mein had the worst taste. Like gasoline. And the pad thai was dry and looked very old and it was really chopped up and smashed into the container. The smell was so bad. The veggies and rice looked slimy and the side of white rice looked fine. I threw out the whole ‘meal’ we never eat out because I have trust issues but this just reaffirmed I have been making the right decision to cook for my family. This place deserves a zero on food and service. I ended up making our family mommy style chinese and thai. We stayed up later but it was worth a late bedtime to know no one would wake up with food poison.
Cozy little strip mall Chinese restaurant. No buffet and the food is served on paper plates with plastic cutlery, but they make up for it with great flavors and fresh meats and veggies. Their stir fry always has that crunch of freshness to it and I think that says it all.
I met a few friends for lunch at Shanghai Bistro. The food was pretty decent. The server was a bit aloof. The tables are close to each other with little space for privacy.
