This is a great place to sit in one of the balconies to watch the crowds go by. The margaritas here were decent but the food is mediocre. We had lasagna, pizza and salads. All were mediocre. The service is subpar and inconsistent. It is...as if the wait staff didn’t need to work for tips so they just do the minimum. When I tip 10% it feels excessive.
The place has a great atmosphere, service impeccable, prices are fair and the food is excellent. We went there our first night in Guanajuato and went back on the second night. On our third night we went to a restaurant across the street and the...service was terrible with absolutely no wine choices. Left that restaurant and went back to the Trattoria. All three night we had a great dinner on one of the balconies overlooking the Theater and the park. Highly recommend this restaurant. Covid protocols were followed very good.
If you want to see el jardin, the centerpiece of downtown guanajuato, from a ringside seat, have a meal at la trattoria. sitting at a balcony table is a great way to experience the vibrant scene of this part of the city while you dine...on italian, seafood or beef specialties at this lovely restaurant. although the food doesn 't come up to the atmosphere, it is fine with a lot of variety on the menu. there is a good wine list with plenty of offerings from mexico in the vino tinto category. i had a delicious shiraz from valle de parras for $400 pesos which was a relative bargain for the quality. the grilled salmon filet on a bed of mashed potatoes with steamed vegetables was very good, although the vegetables were lacking flavor for some reason. they were slightly under cooked, but perhaps some seasoning would have helped. the entradas were varied and plentiful with offerings such as frito misto and salmon carpaccio. if you want a simple dinner, go for a pizza. there were about a dozen choices of toppings, although nothing different from any other restaurant in the downtown area. the service was mixed. i think my waiter may have been new, so i have to note that. i was a little surprised when he brought an ice bucket for my red wine. he was confused when i told him red wine isn 't supposed to be served cold. another waiter stepped in to rectify the situation. when i first sat down and ordered the wine, he said, so, you don 't want any food? as he removed all the menus. just confused but really shouldn 't have been waiting table alone at the point in training he was. i wasn 't asked if i wanted coffee or postres. i did, and, of course, it 's a money-maker for the restaurant and money lost since i decided i just wanted to leave at that point rather than pursue the issue. all things considered, i probably wouldn 't return. essentially, the view from the tables is lovely and romantic. maybe go for a drink or coffee and dessert, but i 'd skip going for a full-blown meal. the prices are high for the quality of the food and service. there are many better restaurants within a few blocks with much better food and equally good ambiance, just not a park view.
Lugar agradable. Servicio y atención buenos por parte de los meseros. La comida está bien y los precios son razonables. El lugar tiene buena ubicación.
