We especially appreciate the attention they paid to my niece and nephew (7&9)Both were made to feel included, special and help to entertain them on an adult length dinner. 10 people and ten different meals. Each cooked and plated to perfection. The mill is old. Over 125 years. That added to the event. The total bill was much less then i expexted. Which means i can return again soon. I'm so tired of loud restaurants where a group conversation dies in the ambiant noise. Tonight we tossed one line jokes from each end of the table like a tennis match.
Front of house and wait staff regularly earn praise from Mill regulars and deservedly so. It is easy to see why so many two and three generation family gatherings take place here. The property is charming, if a little on the dark side when entering the dining room from outside on a bright, sunny evening. The kitchen’s efforts however, in our experience, don’t always live up to what might have become our unreasonable expectations for the price. Dinner for two with wine and tip can blow by $140 quite easily and a simple lunch might be half that sum. Not bad by Greater Toronto standards perhaps, but . . . . Considering that the restaurant seems to appeal to a more mature clientele we would think there would be a washroom on the main level. As it is the washrooms are down a set of stairs that could be a challenge for some and totally impossible for others. The entry to the restaurant is also up a set of wooden steps though once inside, the various dining rooms seem to be easily accessed. On a good day we have seen everything come together well for a delicious and pleasant experience. At other times there has been mild disappointment. But hey, where isn’t that the case? Will we be back? Yes, it’s an easy place to reach off the 401 and a convenient and well-known spot to meet with friends who live in the area or travel from some distance afield. Fingers crossed for a 'good day'.
We went here for a Father's Day brunch and had a really good time. Our waitress, I wish I could remember her name, ( she lived out west) was excellent. The surroundings bring you back in time with the old sleigh hanging from the ceiling and hundreds of artifacts. The food was also really good and they had a great prime rib of beef. We'll be back.
We were travelling and looking for a place to celebrate a birthday. We chose the Aberfoyle Mill based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and were not disappointed. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and make us feel comfortable. We noticed that they work together well as a team, even taking care of each others' tables to make sure no one was overlooked. The decor in the old mill added interesting conversation topics. The Prix Fixe menu was a good bargain, and each item we chose was delicious, with a great presentation. The goat cheese and phyllo pastry appetizer was delicious, and the pistachio cheesecake was superb!
On our way home from Cambridge we decided to have dinner here (5:00 PM) and I am glad we did. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The dining room where we ate is filled with antiques and we sat near the fire place. We were told a brief history of the mill and told to wander around which we did. All the gears and water from the original mill are still there. They also have many different areas to eat in, Later that night they were hosting a murder mystery night upstairs. In the summer they also open the patio which can accommodate many people which I never knew they had.I had the roast beef (house favourite) and my wife had the lamb accompanied by a tasty red wine. This was preceded by a Caesar salad whose dressing is made in house! Don't find that very often these days! I would recommend this place to anyone. My only disappointment is that I have passed this place many times over the years and never once did I stop to eat here. It certainly was a delightful experience.
