I love that, they didn't bury the spicy mirror. the early roll we had were some of the best early roll I've ever had. the enoki mushrooms in the dish were absolutely phenomenal and the chow my sauce was unique to the resturant but really added to the dish. a place to which we will return safely!
More interesting place, not sitting inside, although they could now. that was okay, I thought the portions were small for the prices. the service was strange, a court was brought out by a Jewish young, the other came through a window next to my table. both were served in withdrawal containers, but I had to ask for lids and a bag at the end. the bag was too small, strange. I'm probably not going back.
I am a little confused about the reviews of zen garden. we have been traveling for years and never had a single bad experience, not with eating or service. as a vegan this is the only Chinese food option in guelph, but they. always supply great taste and good value. the location is something hidden, but the old house in which it is located has a warm and charming. it's always soothing to just go into the door. prices have risen in recent years, but this is the case everywhere. but the portions here are very large, so they never go hungry at home and they probably have left. there are simply too many food options to describe, but we really like the singapur vermicelli nudges, won tonn suppe, since then platter and pot sticker. they can even get sushi if that's their preference. I don't usually eat baked rice dishes, but these are excellent. the mock meats are what really separate this place from other similar. they are varied and give the various styles texture and taste. we should really try some other dishes because there are so many, but we like our 'normal' order so much, we never do! we hope that zen garden remains a guelph institution.
Portions are reasonable and eating is always delicious! the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. for a Chinese restaurant serving only vegetarian and vegan meals means there is no cross-contamination with meat products.
Tried the Seitan Platter (all hail seitan! and the Sweet-Sour Soup. Both were lovely. Their tea is really nice too. I think it was the chinese roast style of seitan that was particularly amazing. Love that they can easily veganize so many dishes and that...they stock unique ingredients like Taro and unique types of mushroom. A delightful low key vibe as well to the place too.
