We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening. It was a cool late August day and there were not many people out and about. In all I guess that there were about 5 separate tables of diners during our meal so calm and quiet. This restaurant is a short distance from the medieval city entrance to Guerande and shaped in a long narrow rectangle back from the entrance/reception. We received a rather reserved but acceptable reception and were quickly shown to our table for two; the rest of the service was like that. There was reasonable space between the individual two person tables so one would not have felt too crowded if the place had been busy. Following an aperitif we both opted for the "Salade Atlantique" which comprised toasted white bread, smoked salmon, crème ciboulette and balsamic dressed salad. This was all very fresh and plentiful. The main was "Pièce du boucher avec pommes frites et salade." Again, all very fresh, plentiful and served hot; the steak was properly cooked. We washed all that down with a demi of Merlot which was surprisingly good for "vin en carafe" and a lotcheaper that the bottles of wine which we found somewhat expensive. The only disappointment was the dessert, a "Crème Brulée" and "Fondant au chocolat" which, whilst fresh, were both lacking in flavour (we guessed they were bought in); the expresso wasn't great either. Conclusions - fresh and plentiful food but quite classical style without innovation so if that's what you want go for it but at a price! We used a voucher which reduced the cost but if we'd paid full price it would have been about €68 for two (not including drinks which were €21 extra) which I find expensive for that style of food and certainly costly if you are more than a couple.
Mehhhhhhh they sell these little deep fried fish the size of minnows and serve it with a ketchup sauceN O those tiny tiny little eyeballs.
This is really good restaurant outside the main walls of Guerande (a short way along the road leading directly from the Porte de St. Michel which is the main south-east gate). It has nice modern decor and there is a small courtyard for eating outside if you wish. The menu at €21.80 was very good value for excellent food e.g fruits de mer, stuffed mussels, steak, hake, creme caramel and ile flotant. Being out of the main town, it can easily be overlooked but it provides a really good alternative to creperies and is worth seeking out.
After we saw the reviews on this site, we chose the agapé and we were really not disappointed, on the contrary! our entries, dishes and desserts were excellent, full of flavors and what a pleasure to have a real gourmet menu also for children (to 11€); It was as beautiful as good (for the children also who left nothing, and neither did we!). and cherry on the cake, the staff is really nice. As for the amount that some speak in their comments, we had quite enough...We will undoubtedly come back and have already more than advised around us!
