The teas arrived after about ten minutes, but it took another ten minutes for the soup to come out. We didn't see the teacake at all. We had to flag down a passing waitress who apologized and checked with someone behind the counter, who said it wasn't on the order. After ten more minutes, we had to ask for the teacake again (and by then I had already finished my small pot of tea). The waitress seemed frustrated and had another conversation with someone. Finally, the teacake was brought over quickly with a brief sorry from the unfriendly person behind the counter who gave us only a small piece of butter, so we had to ask for more. By the time the teacake arrived, my partner had finished her soup, which was actually quite good, hence the two out of five rating. Unfortunately, the teacake was cold, and the butter was too hard, making it difficult to spread and ruining the teacake. One of the waitresses was working very hard, but the others were not. Overall, we wouldn't go back to this restaurant.
I met up with some friends for lunch at this restaurant and was very disappointed with my experience. Despite the almost empty dining area, we still had to wait to be seated. Some of the menu favorites, like paninis and welsh rarebit, were no longer available, and the prices had significantly increased. The baked potatoes were priced at £9.95 or £10.95, with nothing particularly special about the fillings. All sandwiches were £8.95 and toasties were £9.95, while even a single scoop of ice cream cost £2.95. I decided to try the 'wheelbarrow toastie', which was essentially ham and cheese with onion, rocket, and a small side salad, priced at £9.95. Unfortunately, the ham was chewy and there was very little cheese, making it not worth the cost. My friends opted for the £8.50 prawn cocktails, which they enjoyed. I used to enjoy dining at Squires, but now feel that it has lost its way and is quite disappointing.
We booked a table here for 9 of us for Mothering Sunday and we were really impressed. Despite the restaurant being really busy, the staff (especially Mandy) were polite and professional and took time with us to make sure we had ordered and had everything we needed. The food was served quickly and was absolutely delicious, I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked, those in the party who had the beef said it was equally as delicious. We spoke to the chef who told us how she made the amazing sweet mustard glaze for the salmon, I am going to try and recreate it at home it was that good! Very reasonably priced with excellent food and service, with so many places catering for the lowest common denominator, this place definitely stands out. Thanks to everyone for our lovely family lunch.
Busy place, but nice and open so felt comfortable. Service good despite being busy. Good café food and reasonable coffee.
Popped in here a few weeks ago to get a quick coffee. Surly staff, scruffily dressed...one waitress with belly hanging over apron! For heavens sake! Boiling hot flat white coffee....coffee should NEVER be boiling hot! Visit Gails in Guildford Tunsgate to learn how a flat white coffee should really be made. I would not recommend this place at all...could be so much smarter with a bit of care and imagination......and style.
