We arrived early for lunch and the manager was very pleasant and engaged and sat right away in the shaded Piazza. What a great location – surrounded by medieval houses! We enjoyed the roasted baby goat, octopus and lettuce washed with pretty sweet Sangria....Sadly the much praised Duck Rice was not available so we 'll have to go another time!
The restaurant is small. The owner is in the kitchen and also serves. Everything is fresh, with passion and served with care. We were there on a rainy day and were the only guests. The food was delicious, the owner was... very friendly and affordable
I rarely give five star reviews on Tripadvisor. But this restaurant deserves one. I am back in Guimaraes for the second time this year, but this time accompanied by She who has to be obeyed. Last night I ate the most satisfying food I had in town. It was my luck to enjoy the most beautiful piece of calf I had in a few years. The congenial proprietor led me to a grilled piece of veal tenderloin, simply seasoned and served in own juices, with three vegetables and potatoes. The presentation was excellent. I went in, I was skeptical about the wine list, and that's why I just ordered a jug of the house red. It was a jewel. She ordered a court of Alheira: a local specialty of bread and meat sausage smoked just for ever. Not to know she's a sausage eater, her choice surprised me. The final product has not been disappointed. The restaurant itself is pleasant in a small way. We're in Guimaraes for two more nights, and I'd be surprised if we don't return for another meal. If you are best after unpretentious Portuguese, El Rei D. Alfonso is a good bet.
To explore local cuisine to the limits, share feijoada á Transmontana (gestwed meets and beans) and homemade alheira de caça (unique slowly cooked sausages). Pumpkin soup is above average!
