Hence, we have been steady customers for several years. But, I´m sorry to say, I will not go there again in a while. Every time we get there, the service gets worse. The waiters are so unbelievable uncappable to attend the many guests that are visiting them every day. They ignore people waiting, they ignore people sitting and wanting to order, the ignore people waiting to pay, they have not learnt how to clean tables, they walk around with empty hands and all of their answers are “in two seconds”. Last time we waited at our table for 30 minutes before we left again. Totally ignored. Other guests where laughing at the bad service, and at first, I felt ashamed and sorry for the owners. They work really hard for this place and it used to be so great. But I can´t help but agree, as it was almost funny how uncappable the staff is to handle the number of guests. My advice would be: Remove half of the tables outside – than I’m sure they can manage better.
This is the third time we have eaten a family dinner at Generalen. This time an early Christmas style, Danish smørrebrød with a French twist The proprietors, Jeanette and Christian are great hosts and are passionate about the food they serve. Many ingredients are sourced locally. The restaurant itself is located in what used to be the stables of the magnificent Tranekær castle, which is located nearby. Tranekær is one of the oldest castles remaining in Denmark, and has been on the same family for many generations. Great and hyggelig atmosphere and great food. Only complaint bis that we all are too.much!
Great food and service A bit on the pricier side but worth it Traditional classic dishes with some twists
The venue is the former horse stabbles where each group is placed in a box that used to belong to a horse. We had the pleasure of dining at the former box of Agatha. We had the solid food which this days was lamb shank....It was delicious and plentiful. Service is fine.
We and family people total) went for dinner Saturday night. Very busy, and we were advised that we might have to wait a while for service. minutes wait, not long, and a very nice professional waitress arrived with the menus. We chose our...meals which arrived quite quick. main course fish and main course venison and it was all amazingly good. As were the deserts. Asked desert wine and the waitress arrived with a tray of different wines and explained what was what. Not only was food, drink, and service extremely good and total bill very reasonable for what we had (We live in England and price wise it was what we would have paid in England). Cannot recommend GENERALEN enough. We have been a couple of times now and will definitely be back.
