How disappointed we were when we arrived there on our first night to be greeted by an unfriendly lady...at the bar who actually made us feel like we were not wanted there. We ordered drinks and asked if they were serving food, which they were. The menu states, homemade this and home made that, stone baked pizzas etc etc but honestly, the hardest working member of staff in that kitchen was the microwave, heard it constantly pinging. I had the scampi, my partner had pizza, was ok at best. I know things are hard for pub owners just now but a smile and good manners cost nothing, we are tourists with money to spend but won’t be spending anymore of it there, massive disappointment as no other pub in the village. Come on…. this place could be so much more.
We were staying in Corris and the Slaters Arms is the local pub. The landlady was less than welcoming, bordering on rude, a smile costs nothing! We had the burger, it was mediocre at best, the onion rings were very tasty and the chips homemade...and so tasty. It was a shame as we would have stayed for the evening but went back to our cottage instead.
As a birthday gift, our family treated us to a night at the Slaters Inn in Corris. They described it as Brian's "glass of beer" and they were absolutely right. The inn is run by the hardworking couple Mike and Charlotte. Mike is the chef and we highly recommend trying their steak and ale cake, it is delicious. Over the past five years, the inn has been upgraded by Mike and Charlotte and has returned to being a true local pub, supporting the local football team and serving real ale. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to experience a cozy local pub that is open year-round, you will love it here. Corris is a charming old slate mining village with its own steam train, tracks, footpaths, and the Corris Craft Centre. We have already booked a trip on the steam train and King Arthur’s Labyrinth, an underground adventure with a boat ride and half a mile of walking. Both experiences are not to be missed. The local staff at the Corris Craft Centre Tourist Information Centre are a wealth of information and they recommended some beautiful walks and sights in the area. The Slaters Inn is conveniently located right in the heart of the village.
I read mixed reviews before coming to this restaurant, but the pictures of the food looked delicious! Unfortunately, the experience did not meet my expectations. The food was okay, but there is definitely room for improvement and it seems like standards have dropped since the photos were taken. I agree with other reviewers that the woman behind the bar seemed very unwilling to help. We tried to interact with her all week, but she seemed disinterested in serving us. I have noticed that the owner tends to apologize in response to negative reviews, but the reality is that unfriendly service and mediocre food will inevitably attract negative feedback. It is up to the owners to take this feedback and make necessary improvements.
I can't fault this place at all! We were a group of 13, which was quite large for a small local restaurant like this. However, they exceeded all expectations with their fantastic food and drinks. They even opened on Saturday and Sunday mornings for breakfast.
