People's Park Tavern - Hackney

A score of 1 was only given in order to at least draft this review. I visited this seemingly pleasant pub for a friends birthday party. They have a decent square footage with a variety of areas inside where people can enjoy their food/drink. You know the bad bit is coming! There was diversity in their staff by way of obvious background, which is excellent to see for any establishment! I was served by a male member of staff at the bar who wore jet black glasses. He was friendly and pleasant with staff and customers. He would charge for drinks after or during preparation of the same. However when it came to serving me he insisted I pay first before he even started preparing my drink. Did seem odd when he wasn’t adopting the same approach with others. Furthermore, throughout the night I was served by a stocky bold gentleman who immediately before served somebody else promptly with no qualms. However, when he proceeded to serve me he would raise his left index finger and say “one second, one second…” then walk off for a few minutes or so and serve me my drink. I saw this happen to another person from a BAME background. This happened to me three times! On the final occasion he walked away and put blue gloves on to prepare my drink. This is obviously degrading treatment. Why did he need blue gloves this time to prepare my drink when he never wore them for all the other dozens of drinks he prepared earlier that night for others! Regrettably, this is racism in a blatant form, whether conscious or unconscious by the perpetrators. I will not be coming back here again and will not be recommending it either.

I reserved this restaurant for my birthday party with 25 guests. Just 45 minutes before the party was supposed to start, I was informed that they couldn't accommodate us and had to move us. I wasn't given any options or compensation, and had to listen to the waiter complain about the situation. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he was avoiding his responsibilities. This venue is a total mess with incompetent management and no atmosphere. I do not recommend coming here.

For the price of the Sunday roasts, it did not live up to it. I got the beef and it was mostly fat. And my friends got the nut roast which they said was sickening after awhile being very sweet. And our waiter absolutely hates his job

We're all used to nights out being ruined by bouncers. It's a very pleasant surprise for it to be my made by one. A wonderful evening. Alexei is the boss.

£6.85 for a lager shandy. £6.45 for Kronenberg. £6-£11 for starters (fries, halloumi fries, chicken strips). Toilets are in disgusting condition. Way too expensive, the pricing doesn't make sense!
