The food here doesn't seem to be the same every day. It seems that the chef uses fresh ingredients at the chef's discretion and cooks with his own recipe. Sometimes the customer is the subject of the food experiment. Of course, it can be delicious food or bad food to the customer's taste. I ate duck meat. The two sauces under the grilled duck legs were made by the chef himself and were perfect for my taste. But... But... It was too hard whether the duck legs were grilled incorrectly or quickly defrosted from the freezer.??I respect the chef's personal recipe. But duck meat needs to be studied a little more.
Cute spot, friendly staff.I’m not a coffee person but I wasn’t overly impressed with the $10 French press coffee (for 2 people 3 cups)The end of day brunch something was yummy with the syrup all over it but it tasted almost table syrupy vs pure maple syrupy— still delicious. Chicken was very nicely fried but mine was still cold in the middle (I think it’s pre fried but was juicy and fully cooked, I checked, so I don’t think I’m at risk of food poisoning) waffles got a big soggy sitting under the food/ waiting for chicken? But I’m picky about waffles. The shakshouka (ordered because I’ve never tried it before) wasn’t my jam— Just a lot of tomato paste with eggs and almost soggy bread (did the bread even have butter on it???— did not taste buttery)—sad. But maybe other people like tomato paste and soggy breadI’d give this place another chance because they have a good looking French toast
Delicious food in a quiet, yes, quiet atmosphere. Great service too! We will be back. Highly recommend.
The servers were quite unfriendly, giving the impression that we weren't welcome. Meanwhile, the owner was at the bar reading aloud reviews he found online about his restaurant. The floors and bathroom were in poor condition, and overall, the place felt quite uninviting. The only highlight was the warm hospitality and friendliness of the head chef, whose food was impressive—I had the donair gnocchi, which was excellent. However, aside from that, I wouldn't recommend spending your time going to Afrite in downtown Halifax when there are so many other fantastic restaurants in the area.
