Italian cuisine caters more to Canadian and American clientele ... if you are looking for authentic Italian food you need to cross the Atlantic ;) my linguine with clams though tasty was very rich in cream and not the light garlic and oil spaghetti and clams that is typical in authentic Italian restaurants... my partners steak was a good cut and quality of meat, but a bit overcooked. All in all a good experience and would try it again. Recommended for location and ambiance and good food.
We come every summer when we visit Halifax. So many other restaurant choices, but Da Maurizio is always our first choice. This year another delicious meal with wonderful, friendly, attentive service. We all enjoyed our meals, both new choices and old favourites. Thank you again.
From a week of traveling through the Maritimes, and enjoying many excellent lunches and dinners, Da Maurizio was our favorite. We arrived on a busy (but not noisy) Saturday night to be greeted by a friendly, smiling hostess (Tanya, who turned out to be one of the owners, along with her husband, the chef). The place has a lovely, warm ambiance. We did not have a reservation and no tables were available at the time, but we preferred to sit at the bar for a cocktail first anyhow. We spent the next half hour or so chatting with a fantastic young man seated next to us, as well as with Tanya, who had jumped behind the bar to help out and mix some excellent drinks (including ours). She was so friendly, interesting and easy to chat with, and she gave us great restaurant tips for NYC! Once we were seated at our table, the service, food and wine did not disappoint. The escargots were the best I've ever had, and the half portion of risotto with Icelandic scampi was delicious. (Icelandic scampi are hard to find, and soooo yummy!). My husband loved his foie gras and linguini arrabiatta. The wine we chose was very good and at a very reasonable price. It was a perfect evening; my husband and I highly recommend this charming restaurant.
We like this restaurant, i do believe it is the best Italian in Halifax. it is a bit on the high side in prices but the service is great and the food speaks for itself. The veal Scaloppini is great. On my last visit I also had the gamberi Santa Maria (shrimps) I dd not think the description of this appetizer is adequate, Let's just say the writer had good intentions, never tasted the lobster and basically $18 for 5 shrimps is a bit high and their definition of jumbo is not the same as mine.
We made a reservation and it was honored immediately upon our arrival. From the time we entered until we departed everything was excellent. The service was impeccable and the food amazing! Our party started with the calamari appetizer and a fresh salad. Both were excellent and a good indication of the entrees to follow. We all had seafood of some sort. The mixed seafood that included half a lobster tail was amazing. The mussels were excellently prepared. We read some of the negative reviews but our experience was not like that. We'd highly recommend a visit here. It was expensive but worth it. Also, the wine list was very good.
