The restaurant tends to be quite busy during brunch hours, but we never have to wait too long for a table. They serve combination plates, allowing diners to sample a variety of dishes. I highly recommend adding the tofu scramble and garlic sauce!
They offer a dedicated vegan menu featuring options like chili, burgers, falafels, fries, and onion rings, among others. For just $10, you can get a vegan combo plate with three choices, including carburetor, lentil rice, falafels, veggie patties, hausfries, and hummus. I highly recommend the cauliflower and garlic home fries—they're the best I've ever had!
Update: they now have a separate vegan menu! they just need to ask: they serve all the usual traditional vegans, but also tofu scramble! jass! they love this place! the personal is so friendly and super courteous for my plant-based gluten-free lifestyle! the vegan combo is 10$ for three items and the variety and the aromes are safe winners. the garlic sauce is to die (at the domestic fries or on the side! they also buy locally as much as possible! can you say I am a native here? haha happy eating! xx updated by previous review on Wednesday, 02 March 2016 updated by previous review on 2016-03-02
My first impressions when walking into Mary's Place was how homey and warm the diner felt. It fells like you are walking into your grandmother's kitchen. We were greeted immediately by a really friendly lady who also noticed our posters we were carrying from a protest we just attended. She gave words of support and proceeded to answer my questions regarding a vegan menu. She said that they will take care of us and answer any questions. Basically anything they have they can accomodate us and also mentioned they do lots of gluten-free options as well. When browsing the menu, I noticed many options and one really cool feature was their vegan combo menu listed on the bottom. Three items for 10 dollars and any additions are only 2 dollars extra. For Halifax, that is truly a fantastic deal. Hubby and I both went for combos. Many of the dishes are Indian in orietation. I ordered the garlic potatoes, basmati rice and veggie patty. It arrived promptly and was a good size portion. The garlic dip was a bit discerning when looking at it but we called over the waitress and she assured us that it was vegan, with no animal ingredients. The food was tasty, filling and satisfying. I loved the potatoes! We both enjoyed our meal and the pleasant service we received, as well as it being extremely affordable. Next time I hope they have vegan ice cream in so I can get myself a vegan milkshake. : Updated from previous review on Sunday March 02, 2014 Updated from previous review on Thursday July 24, 2014
I had an incredible breakfast at Mary’s! I enjoyed a VLT sandwich made with real speck and a side of house salad. The mimosa was also exquisite! The food was fresh, served quickly, and absolutely delicious! They offer several vegan options, and I will definitely be returning!
