My partner and I were walking the Heysen Trail and arrived at the "Wild Dog" Pub looking for some respite and food - owner Chris was very accomodating and generous, allowing us to rest inside the pub before he officially opened, as well as making a delicious vegetarian pizza for our dinner! Would recommend this as a stop for all Heysen Trail walkers. Thanks!
Wildongoleechie Hotel, which is Aboriginal for 'watering hole' also calls itself 'Wild Dog' (a derivative of its Aboriginal name). We stumbled upon it during a road trip and were pleasantly surprised by its warmth and charm. The owners are friendly and engaging. They offer good old fashioned Aussie pub fare - we had hamburger and schnitzel - which is delicious. The pub itself has a venerable old history and the new owners really seem to have embraced it. We highly recommend it for a lovely piece of Australian history and a good meal.
Four couples travelling together stayed overnight. It was lovely and cosy sitting by the fire with a glass of wine and a good book. Dinner was tasty and filling. Graham Charmaine were most accomodating with the late arrival of some of our party which...meant we had to have a late dinner. Bedrooms were small and comfortable and shared facilities were clean and worked well for us. A suggestion for improvement would be tea and coffee being served with breakfast and water on the table at meals.
