Do not expect a lot of fuzz, they leave you in peace enjoying the food. The wine list is limited but nice, ideal when you want to jump in to have something different without being robbed.
Had lunch here with a friend, cheap, okay food which wasn't very Portuguese, but good quality and quite filling. Great deal, nice food. Would definitely try again. Nice neighborhood for a lazy Sunday afternoon, too.
We were looking for a place to eat in the Sternschanze area and everywhere appeared to be fit to burst. This was place was absolutely bursting at the seams but we were told we could be seated which was good of them I suppose. I have never seen so many tables squeezed into a small space. You felt like you were having an intimate meal with the others around you (about an inch of a gap between the tables) and the waiting staff could barely move. Maybe a bit too much of profiting over customer experience. There were only 2 members of staff working the whole restaurant which was totally absurd. I actually watched as he would help prepare food in the kitchen as well as try to deal with service. You felt guilty for taking up any of his time! We struggled with the menu a bit as it was all in German and we only have limited German but I suppose that is a fault with us. The staff had no time to translate anything. We took a punt on a sharing platter and a side of patatas bravas I was ready for a long wait but unbelievably the food was in front of us in under 5 minutes even though the restaurant was so busy. It can't be that fresh. The little meat and cheese bites on the platter were lovely as were the prawns. The patatas bravas were standard and if it wasn't for the complimentary bread it wouldn't have been anywhere near a full meal. (We did ask if it was enough for a meal and were told yes) Overall we didn't enjoy the experience in the cramped chaotic conditions - it may be better when slightly less busy but its clearly very popular with locals. The caipirinha's however are good value and very strong!
We found this charming Portuguese restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat in the Sternschanze district. What a find! I had Cataplana, a Portuguese fish stew speciality and my other half had the swordfish (2 steaks!). There was lots of choice available on the menu. We took up the offer of a Caprainha cocktail to round off the meal which was very reasonably priced. Overall a brilliant little eating establishment in probably my favourite area for eating out on an evening in Hamburg.
Although the interior is a bit over the top the flair sends your mind and soul to a Portuguese harbour. The grilled food (meat and fish) is amazing (swims in oil and garlic). The old (very skilled waiter) has a family business wibe that is complemented by his younger crowd staff:-)
