After the James Street location was condemned the new place was needed. The new restaurant looks like it could be in Mexico. It was able to maintain the unique look from the old place but be updated. I can see this place filled with tequila drinkers on a summer night. Food is a bit pricey for what you get but pretty good.
My husband and son went there tonight May 27th. The waiter was nice but needs to be more organized. We waited over ten minutes for him to take our drink order than another 10 to serve our drinks than he screwed up my husbands beer and gave it to someone else. My husband was almost done eating before he got his first drink! I would understand if the place was packed but it wasn't. Just us and two other tables on the patio.I thought maybe inside was busy but no just two tables with people. He needs to be organized because we were there first before the two people at the other table and he brought their food before my husband got his first beer. Poor guy was thirsty! The food was great maybe we will call ahead and pick up!
We stumbled on the reopening of Mex i can (now Agave) while in town for Garth Brooks concert. What a lucky accident. All the restaurants down town were packed and we found Agave while looking for a place to eat on Hess St. The old Mex i can got great reviews when it was open and we tried to find it last August when we were in town only to find it had closed. It was obvious they were not completely ready for the opening as there was still some clutter around and they were short staffed. But there was no line up and they assured us they had cold beer! One of the owners (his name escapes me) advised us this was a soft opening and they did not have their full menu yet, but had the mexican staples of burritos, chimichangas, enchiladdas, quasadias etc. He was also very apologetic that service may be a little organized as they had some helpers not show up. We were not in a hurry so this did not bother us. We got our beer and and drinks. According to our Margarita expert with us the Margarita was fantastic. Although we were the first ones in the place, every table and the bar were quickly filled. Despite the soft opening, a busy night, lack of staff and and not being fully operational our food came very quick, was plated well and was delicious. Everyone of us enjoyed our meal and it appeared those around us did as well. The part owner was very friendly and spoke with us frequently telling us about the place, why the original closed, making sure everything was OK and apologizing for not being completely ready. We told him everything was great and there was no need to apologize for anything. All in all we had a great dinner and a fun time. I look forward to returning when they are fully operational and have their full menu. The only thing they need is to stock some good quality Tequila.
A cheery restaurant with a pleasant location and fitting decor, Gill serves up beautiful and tasteful food.
Small and trendy restaurant with lovely foodThe house wine was pretty good and our magret de canard and beef tartare were splendid.
