South City Chinese Food - Hamilton

Ordered from here tonight for the first time. Check the online menu for current specials (and free menu items if you spend a certain amount...you have to request the free item when you order). The portion sizes and prices were excellent, so I would've given this place a 4, except the food itself was just average. We ordered the egg rolls and spring rolls (both of which tasted like they were frozen food). Also ordered the beef low mein, which had a nice flavour but the beef itself had a questionable texture (like chewy rubber). Also had the general tao chicken which was actually good. The free sweet and sour wontons were just deep friend wontons with the sauce on the side. Waste of food, although it was free. Since the staff was friendly, the prices and portions were good, I would order from here again and different menu items.

We have been on the hunt to find a good place on the mountain as it seems most are downtown. We just tried it yesterday and had a couple of the family dinner combos. Everything tasted great and we got a ton of food for a great price! I definitely recommend it! We found our place!

We found our new Chinese takeout restaurant. I usually order the "dinner for 1 or 2" type meals from takeout places. Most of the time you get a bit of meat and lots of rice and chow mein. South City is very different. You get three types of meat in their dinners and you get a ton of meat and just the right amount of rice. My personal favourites are the lemon chicken and general tso chicken. Dont hesitate to order from these guys. Amazing value and food quality.

We ordered a number of dishes for a family take out dinner. There was very little meat (even for a take out restaurant) and pretty much the only vegetable was onions. Tons and tons of onions in every dish. Terrible value. Would not recommend.

We have been ordering from South City ever since Yum Yum closed.....food is excellent! We usually order one of the specials for 4 and add whatever else we want to our order. One time, our order was missing shrimp but instead we had two orders of chicken balls. We called and they immediately brought it too us. They are friendly and quick and the food is always fresh. The battered shrimp is usually deveined but not the last time we ordered so I will check on that next time I call to order. I am allergic to msg and they are very good about not adding it but informing me that it is already in the egg rolls. Very nice family owned and like I said, the food is hot, fresh and delicious. Overall price is great too!
