I took my mom to Linens Lace last weekend and the experience started off good, but went down hill fast. The tea room and gift shop are cute. Very old fashion decor, like a real tea parlor, the gift shop had both new and vintage items which I found delightful. When we were brought into the tea room, handed a tea menu and the lady reviewed it with us. Mint tea is like minty, peach tea is peachy, etc., you get my drift. I didn't know what we were getting menu-wise, didn't know how it worked (I've been to several tea rooms and they are all a little different). Nothing was explained until I asked. So the teas came out and they were very strong tea but the flavors were lacking, you couldn't really tell what flavors we had. The chicken noodle soup came out and I can't be certain, but it seemed to be canned, I heard her heating it up in the microwave, but not sure. Next came the scones, tea sandwiches and desserts. The scones were very small and the cream served was really sour, almost like sour cream, not very tasty. No lemon curd or any other topping. We each only got two finger sandwiches and at other places you usually get four. The ham and pineapple slaw sandwich was delicious and the egg salad was egg salad. For dessert the strawberry and whipped cream dish was delicious, the coffee cake was store bought and the slice of watermelon was disappointing. Now, the poor service. The lady was very friendly and nice, but she never came back to check on us after we were served. I went to the restroom on the other side when I was done and she was on a personal call. I told her we were ready and went back to my table. We waited and waited... she never came over. We got up and went over to the counter, on the other side, she was still on the phone and didn't even acknowledge we were standing there ready to pay. Again, I waited and waited. I finally asked to be checked out and when she was done her call she came over to the counter to check us out. I was so annoyed at this point. She apologized, said she was in the process of buying a house or something I don't care, you totally neglected us and made the mediocre experience terrible! Make your personal calls on your own time. The food was chincy for the $22.50 each, for high tea, and the service was awful. Makes sense why we were the only ones in there on a Saturday.
Love this place, super cute. So many teas that are just delicious, and the boutique attached is filled with treasures.
