We were greeted and seated promptly. The ambiance created by their beautiful and tastefully decorated dining room added to very attentive service and the masterful presentation of our most delicious menu choices. We'll certainly return soon and rest assured we won't wait to be celebrating a special occasion for it.
Their new menu is excellent. It should be up and online in a day or 3. I had the blackened tuna, rare, and it was excellent. My wife had Atlantic haddock while my sister had the shrimp. All were new entries to the menu and all were excellent. The soup was gazpacho, again, loved it.
We dined with two friends who live a bit of distance away, and it was their first time. First and foremost, the service was fantastic.. Heather was so sweet and accommodating. The food, not so much. Really disappointing as we love CR's and have dined several times before. The clam chowder, corn chowder, broccolini, and mashed potatoes needed a lot of help. Clam chowder had barely any clams, and if there were any, they were tiny minced pieces throughout. Corn chowder was non-traditional; had an overly sweet element. Was hoping it would have mimicked the classic creamy, buttery, and salty profile of clam chowder (traditional New England style. The mashed potatoes were cold and gummy (overworked. Broccolini was grilled without any olive oil, salt, or pepper, and cold. Bok choy... cold. The food took a long time. Our friends said their entrées were great and hot which was good. This means the kitchen focused more on the entrées than the sides, which two of us made meals out of. Sides were likely prepared well before entrées were done. Heather acknowledged the long wait which we appreciated. We weren't going to bother her to request a reheat remake because we already waited a while. Previous visit we weren't really impressed either. Came a month ago and had the Risotto Primavera which was watery and flavorless. It looks like they changed the ingredients for that dish since last time though, so it may be better.
First time dining at CR's and it was excellent! We were looking for a nice place not far from the beach to enjoy a beautiful dinner. CR's is a gem only 10 minutes from Hampton Beach and easy to get to. We will be returning patrons.
It was a little dark/dim inside. It was also fairly warm in the restaurant and outside it was a 90 degree day. Service was excellent. Duck and venison melted in your mouth. Coffee was good, creme brulee excellent. The fried artichoke hearts were a bit bland but still tasty when used with the pesto.
