There was a large group of people waiting outside and they said they had not been there long and that you had to get a beeper so we did. I went inside and could smell the food and it smelt really good. We chose to sit outside because of my food allergies, I have Alpha Gal Syndrome. Our wait was only about 10 minutes. We were seated and the waiter came about pretty quickly with chips and salsa. I ordered a Medium Mezcal Margarita, the wife had a soft drink. I also ordered a side of guacamole to go along with the chips and salsa. The salsa was just spicy enough to satisfy the wife and had a Smokey flavor to it which I really liked. The wife ate most of it and she doesn’t do spicy that well. Waiter came by not long with drinks and took our order. I got a Chicken Chipotle Burrito with no cheese with a side of pickled jalapenos and the wife got the Chicken Taco Salad no onions. Food came pretty quick and was nice and hot and correct. My wife and I loved the taste of the chicken. I was surprised at the size of the burrito. I’m a pretty big guy and I had a hard time putting it all away. I actually should have taken half in a to go box. The waiter was tentative but not overly and I noticed that he was not writing any of the orders down as people were giving them. Over all we had a very nice dining experience. The only thing that I can say that was negative is the seats outside were right uncomfortable for a guy my size but the average person may not have an issue. We will be back. Fortunately this place is not far from home and I can pick up take out on the way home. If your in the area I suggest checking out this little hole in the wall.
Just down the road by Hanover Courthouse. Bring your appetite get the absurdly good Carnitas dinner big enough to share but even better to be greedy and have the rest the next day! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20
Great place for family and friends. Good food and friendly service! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Queso Dip and Chips and Salsa, Chicken Fajitas Parking space: Plenty of parking
The food was good but the portion of food was not. I ordered the fajitas lunch special and didn't have enough meat to make 3 fajitas with the tortillas that come with the meal. The first 2 fajitas I made were small. I spent $22.00 on lunch, and if it wasn't for the complimentary nacho chips and salsa I would've left the restaurant still hungry. The Waitress never came back to the table after serving the food. The restaurant was clean and also offered outside dining.
One wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful Mexican restaurant in rural Hanover, but I'm here to say it's the best in RVA! When my son told me about El Zocalo, I was skeptical, due only to the location near Hanover Courthouse. I'm so glad he found this gem. We visited on a weeknight and didn't have to wait for a table. Service was prompt and professional, and the margarita was wonderful and tasted fresh. The food is beautifully prepared and so tasty. The seasoned beef and chicken is tender and authentic. I can't wait to go back!
