The flavors were enhanced by the Lebanese-style zhoug sauce (chili). Surprised by the name above the door, however, it seems more Middle Eastern than Balkan.
We were given a Borough Market location cheese Bourek and we enjoyed it. The service is good. Heated before serving but still cold in the middle, but it worked. Very light and crunchy pastry with sesame seeds. Abundant like a cross between feta and halloumi lightly. Needed a little something for 5 stars ... But it was very good.
We decided on the green falafel and hummus in pita, as well as borekas (sesame seed pastries filled with halloumi), and found everything to be delicious. The flavors were elevated with the addition of zhoug, a Lebanese-style chili sauce. We were a bit confused by the name on the door, as the cuisine seemed more Middle Eastern than Balkan.
I tried a cheese bourek from the Borough Market location and liked it. The service was good. It was warmed before serving but still cold in the middle, which surprisingly worked well. The pastry was very light and crispy with sesame seeds. The filling was reminiscent of a light blend between feta and halloumi. It could have used a little extra something for a perfect rating, but overall it was enjoyable.
I love supporting small businesses, and if you enjoy traditional bourekas and hummus, this is the perfect place for you. With only a few tables, the atmosphere is friendly and ideal for a quick, healthy lunch without the busyness of Crouch End.
