When I went to The Portly Pig, the owner Jon was working the register. Not knowing who we were, he answered all our questionsand it was clear that he was so proud of his product. And he should be. It was by far the best meat we sampled. The sauces andsides were creative. What sold me was the fact the sauce was always on the side... never smothering the meat. Be proud of whatyou make... if it's good. When I reached out on their website, I was contacted promptly by Barbara, the catering organizer.Barbara was really easy to talk to. It was clear that, she too, was proud of the product. We were presented with many packagesand options for our small wedding. From service to serving utensils and equipment, it was all offered depending on our needs. Wedecided on a package and had a few add-ons. (There were appx 100 guests) We never once felt pressure to buy something we didn'tneed. I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE SERVICE FOR THE WEDDING!! The food was everything we had hoped for. Hot and delicious. TheMac n cheese and brisket were definitely the guests' favorites. There was plenty of food for all. If you have a hankering forsome freshly smoked meats, I strongly recommend The Portly Pig!!! You will not go wrong.
We placed a to go order in person. Once we got home with our bag of food we quickly discovered that they didn't give us the 1/2lb of brisket we ordered and paid for, along with the extra sauce that we were charged for. Not sure how they forgot thebiggest part of the order. So that was immediately a huge disappointment. The pork ribs mac n cheese is way overpriced. It was alarge amount of the mac, but 2 very small pieces of meat. The garlic mashed potatoes were quite tasty, but we were given a tinyside of gravy for a large container of potatoes. The meatloaf sandwich was just OK. A little dry. Not interested in ever goingback.
The Portly Pig just catered an entire at our home. We chose the Back yard Barbiqu it was the bomb ????. All our guests and ourselves were very impressed with the food. They came to our yard did all the setup and serving the staff was super friendlyand social. We added the Mac and Cheese to our menu. It was the best. People raved about. Highly recommend you order extra.Everyone was very easy to deal with and very helpful meeting our needs. So if your looking to have a BBQ I would highlyrecommend Portly Pig ???? ????
First, my qualifications to review: I 've had BBQ all over the country and world. I 've cooked a dozen whole hogs, countless pork shoulders, and won an award for my pork ribs. Since it was Sunday and most local BBQ joints were closed in my area, I gavethese guys a try. I definitely didn 't want to go to Bears since Bears is some of the worst tasting BBQ I 've ever had and Ididn 't want me and the family to be camped out, sick, in the bathroom like all the other times I 've eaten there. But Idigress Feeding a family function, I got to order a LOT of different items from the Portly menu. Here 's my honest review. The king of the meal was the pork belly burnt ends. I mean, it 's pork belly, so how could it NOT be good? Ribs had a nice barkand were cooked to perfection- not too toothy or soft. The whole chicken was still juicy while being cooked to proper doneness.Pulled pork was alright- fairly plain. Sausage, on the other hand, was spiced incredibly well and dang tasty! Brisket was tenderand moist. None of the meat was over-smoked unlike what seems to be common in the area- no heavy, acrid, overpowering taste ofburnt wood. If that 's the signature of New England BBQ, then I 'm all for it! Now, all that said... there were somedisappointments. The sauces (and I only got the brown sugar and the spicy bourbon) were pretty weak. But, honestly, all of themeats were so good on their own, you don 't need sauce. However, if you 're a sauce person, you 'll likely be let down. Second, the sides (maple potato, and slaw) were also lackluster. They definitely weren 't bad, but also not that good. Both the sidesand sauces just need to be punched up a bit, that 's all. So, all in all, we had a great meal and everyone was happy. Staff wasfriendly and accommodating. I 'd definitely recommend this place if you 're in the area. I hear they 're moving to a largerstorefront. Maybe some of the minor areas for improvement will be addressed. Put some pork on your fork!
The Portly Pig catered a family party for 50 at my home on July 23rd. They did a fantastic job. My guests raved about the food, especially the brisket. Barbara was so helpful to me in planning for this event. And Jonathon arrived exactly on time and set upeverything perfectly. I highly recommend The Portly Pig and will definitely use them again.
