As the previous reviewer said, under new management and a very welcome change that is. Ideally situated on the main street in Hautefort, this little cafe/bar/restaurant has not lived up to its potential for a few years. Now managed by a young couple, it's had a lick of paint and generally tidied up and cleaned, and is once more a pleasure to visit. The terrace under the grapevine is somewhat smarter and includes an outdoor sofa and chairs for lounging with a drink or a coffee, and of course still has the lovely view of the valley under the village. The menu is perfectly suited, with a good range of simple but well executed salads, steak, burgers etc. The ingredients are all sourced locally, the meat from the butchers a few doors down and so on, and all suppliers are attributed on the menu. Ice creams are artisanale, delicious and generous. My wife's parmesan salad was excellent as was my home made burger served in a decent ciabatta style roll. Probably a good idea to reserve a table for lunch in the summer as it will get busy - and also not to be in a hurry to eat - just enjoy it. Nice to see that they plan music evenings - e.g. jazz on a Friday evening - which will make it a very pleasant spot to enjoy a drink as the sun goes down.
The Bistrot has recently changed hands and has a new 70's theme. With lively management, the Bistrot promises to become a more lively and amiable place to stop for a drink or a pleasant meal. Regular concerts are planned throughout the year and this promises to be a very popular cafe.
