We attended the vegan dinner by Chef Michelle Rodriguez a few months ago. Words cannot describe how delicious everything was. There was a mixologist that created a drink pairing for each course. The menu was filling and the flavors were well balanced: 1 Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato soup w/ coconut cream 2 Hearts of Palm Ceviche 3 Grilled Carrots with Lemon Verbena Crema 4 Teff Porridge Fried Chickpeas, Broccoli, Eggplant, Pomegranate Vinaigrette 5 Chocolate Pot de Crème Strawberry Hibiscus Jam, Fresh Berries, Mint, Pistachio Smoked Sea Salt This was a great date night idea. We'll definitely come back for a future event. Two thumbs up!
My visit to Frame for a tasting menu dinner left me with mixed feelings. While the food, courtesy of the guest chef, was a true delight for the palate, the rest of the experience fell far short of expectations. The servers seemed to view our simple request to sit together as a major inconvenience, even though an entirely vacant 10-top table was available and unused. Their attitude conveyed a sense of entitlement rather than hospitality. I understand that our party did not indicate this in the comments when we booked, but a harmless ask before seating began turned into a 4-time reminder from different staff members that we’ve caused a severe disruption with a simple request that they very quickly obliged. If it was so disruptive we would have rather been told no than taunted with a back handed favor. The added drink pairing unfortunately fell flat and the explanations for each pairing lacked depth, leaving the patrons largely in the dark about the rationale of the odd mix of drinks. One such cocktail was a martini that tasted like blended frozen strawberries, a drink so sweet and basic it almost distracted me from the fact that it has no reason to be paired with the dessert it was served with. The room itself was nice with an open kitchen concept but the volume of the music blaring in the background was akin to being at a nightclub rather than a fine dining establishment. Attempting to engage in a conversation became a futile endeavor as we struggled to hear each other over the deafening noise. Asking the staff to lower the volume only resulted in a shockingly confrontational response, as if we had committed a grave offense by desiring a more comfortable auditory environment. To add insult to injury, Frame employs a questionable financial tactic by imposing an 18% surcharge on all bills directed to the restaurant itself. This approach raises eyebrows when coupled with the expectation of a separate gratuity. The convoluted nature of this arrangement suggests a certain level of greed on the part of the owners and only serves to undermine the overall integrity of the establishment. It's genuinely disheartening when a restaurant that boasts exceptional culinary offerings fails to deliver a holistic experience. The management's apparent disregard for basic customer comfort and the staff's reluctant and defensive behavior overshadowed the exceptional cuisine. While I applaud the culinary artistry of the guest chef, I cannot ignore the glaring shortcomings that tainted what could have been a truly memorable dining experience.
